Raiders open fall second as a team, two individuals inside Top 5

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – The Wright State golf team opened its fall 2024 slate with a second-place team finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in South Carolina as five Raiders finished inside the Top 20 individually, with a pair of players inside the top five.

Wright State was third on the team leaderboard after and opening round 284, jumping up to second following a second round 279 card and capping tournament action with a final round 278 team score on the way to finishing -23 under as a group. The Raiders were six shots clear of third place Austin Peay and trailed only Arkansas State, who captured the team title at 35-under. Stetson (fourth, -9) was the only other team under par in he 15-team field.

Individually, Andrew Flynn turned in a second-place finish at 13-under, just two shots behind individual winner Patton Samuels of Austin Peay. Flynn began action with a two-under opening round 70 before firing a six-under 66 in his second round to move up the leaderboard and closed with a final round five-under 67. He finished the tournament with 17 birdies over 36 holes, adding an eagle against just six total bogeys scattered over the three days.

Timmy Hollenbeck finished eight-under overall in fourth, opening his tournament with a four-under 68 before back-to-back two-under rounds of 70 as he notched 16 total birdies against eight bogeys across his 36 holes. Brock Rumpke turned in a six-under scorecard for the week, finishing tied for 13th, opening action with a six-under 66 before a two-over 74 and final round one-over 73. He carded an eagle during final round action to go along with 11 birdies in three rounds.

Adam Horn and Shane Ochs finished tied for 19th at one-under. Horn opened with a two-under round of 70 followed by an even round 72 and closing with a one-over 73, while Ochs began action with a four-over 76 before responding with a one-under 71 and a final round four-under 68. Ali Berker (t80) rounded out the Raider lineup with a 24-over finish, carding rounds of 80, 77 and 83.

Wright State is back in action this weekend closer to home, as the Raiders travel north to take part in the Oakland-hosted Golden Grizzlies Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
