Women’s Basketball Readies to take on Youngstown State for T1D Awareness Game

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will stay at home, welcoming Youngstown State for a 2 p.m. T1D Awareness game on Sunday, January 12. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats and ESPN+ livestreaming.

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders added their first Horizon League win of the season, taking down Detroit Mercy 67-64 on Wednesday evening. Wright State ended the night shooting 41.9 percent overall from the floor, 42.1 from three, and went seven-of-eight on the line.
Three Raiders saw double-figure scoring, as Claire Henson and Rylee Sagester led the team with 15 points each, followed by Amaya Staton with 11 points, while Macie Taylor and Laruen Scott each added nine points for the Raiders. Abbie Riddle led the team with a career high three assists, followed by Henson, Sagester, and Taylor, all adding two.
Henson not only led the team in scoring, but in rebounding as she and Staton each grabbed eight off the backboard on the night. Taylor followed, recording five rebounds, matching her season high for the third time. Henson led the team in steals with three on the night, followed by Makiya Miller and Riddle with two. Staton matched a season best of three blocks, while Riddle added her first of the season.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State is currently 7-9 on the season, sitting tied for seventh in the Horizon League with a 2-4 conference record. Recently, the Penguins welcomed Green Bay, falling to the Phoenix 58-50 on Thursday evening.
As a team, the Penguins are shooting 36.7 percent overall from the floor, 25.4 percent from three, and 66 percent on the line. YSU leads the league averaging 3.8 blocks per game and with 12.1 offensive rebounds per game.
Sophoa Gregory leads the team with a 58.2 field goal percentage and 6.9 rebounds per game. Gregory leads the team with 1.23 blocks per game, ranked second in the league. Jewel Watkins leads the team with 13.3 points per game and is second in the HL with 108 total three-point attempts on the season.

Rylee Sagester put up career highs two consecutive outing, first on Friday, November 6, leading the team with a career high 17 points at Oakland. The redshirt-freshman recorded all but two points from behind the arc, shooting 5-of-11 on the night, a career best, while going two-for-two on the free throw line. Sagester followed, adding seven more points against Cleveland State on Monday, December 16, recording all 24 points from three. The redshirt-freshman is currently ranked 44th nationally with a 44.2 three-point percentage.
STATON HAS 'EM SEEING DOUBLE
Amaya Staton is no stranger to dual-figure stats, putting up a double-double for three consecutive games (Nov. 15-24). Staton's first of the back-to-back-to-back double-doubles came at home on November 15, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds against Tennessee State; then at Bellarmine on November 21, grabbing 11 rebounds and leading the team with 15 points, and again against Ohio with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lorain, Ohio native was the first Raider to see three consecutive double-doubles since Lexi Smith in the 2016-17 season; and as of November 25, Staton was one of just 11 other NCAA Division I women's basketball players to do so in the 2024-25 season.
CAREER HIGH SEASON OPENER
The Raiders opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chloe Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
