MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – The Wright State women's basketball team's
Amaya Staton added her fourth double-double of the season in a 75-50 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday evening. The Raiders will stay in Wisconsin, traveling to Green Bay for a 2 p.m. ET game on Saturday, January 4. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+ or tune in on the Mixlr App.
Wright State (2-13, 0-5 HL) was led by Staton's double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds as the graduate forward went 8-of-16 overall on the night. Joining in the double-figure scoring was
Macie Taylor with 11 points.
Lauren Scott ended the night with nine points, and
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy four.
Makiya Miller led the team with four assists, closely followed by Taylor with three.
Following Staton's 11 rebounds was Miller with eight and Magestro-Kennedy with seven. Staton also led the team in blocks, matching her season high of three at against Purdue Fort Wayne on December 28. The Raiders had six steals on the night, made up by two from Henson and one each by
Olivia Brown,
Rylee Sagester, Staton, and Taylor.
Taylor led the team in scoring at the half, tallying seven points, closely trailed by Scott with six points. Staton had grabbed seven rebounds at the half and added four points in the second quarter.
The Raiders had large turnaround after the half, shooting 40 percent overall in the third quarter. Staton led the team, reaching double-figure scoring with eight points in the third, while Magestro-Kennedy and Miller combined for eight of WSU's 12 rebounds in the quarter. WSU recorded 15 points in the final period, led again by Staton with six points and three rebounds.
Milwaukee (4-12, 1-4 HL) added its first Horizon League win, shooting 45.5 percent overall from the floor and 44.8 percent from three. The Panthers had three players in double-digit scoring, led by
Kacee Baumhower with 18 points, followed by Jorey Buwalda with 12 points and Kamy Peppler with 11 points. Buwalda led Milwaukee in rebounding, grabbing eight off the backboard, while Peppler made it a double-double with 11 assists on the night.
