Women’s Basketball Welcomes Milwaukee for Saturday Double-Header

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will stay in the Dayton, taking on Milwaukee on Saturday, January 25 at 4 p.m. The two will face off following WSU's men's basketball's 1 p.m. game against Detroit Mercy. Fans can keep up with the action virtually through the ESPN+ livestream.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State fell to Green Bay 75-62 on Thursday evening, moving to 2-8 in the Horizon League. WSU ended the night shooting 41.5 percent overall from the floor, 52.9 percent from three, and shot 9-of-14 on the line. Two Raiders saw double-digit scoring, as Claire Henson led the team with 12 points, followed by Makiya Miller with 10 points. Macie Taylor closely trailed, adding nine points for the Raiders, while Lauren Scott and Amaya Staton each had seven points on the night. Olivia Brown and Abbie Riddle each added three of WSU's 11 assists.
The Raiders finished with 27 rebounds, as Brown, Chloe Chard Peloquin, Henson, and Staton each grabbed four off the backboard. Riddle followed with three rebounds on the night. WSU had three steals with one each by Miller, Staton, and Taylor.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee is currently 4-17 on the season, sitting 11th in the Horizon League with a 1-9 conference record, their only win being against Wright State earlier this month. The Panthers recently fell to Northern Kentucky 66-62.
As a team, MKE is shooting 39.6 percent from the floor, 71.2 on the free throw line, and are third in the HL with a 30.4 three-point percentage. They are second in the league with 25.4 defensive rebounds per game, and third with 3.5 blocks per game.
Junior guard Kamy Peppler ranks No. 13 in the nation in assists (111), sitting No. 26 in assists per game (5.3), both league leading. Former Raider Kacee Baumhower's 37 three-pointers rank ninth in the HL, while her 80.3 free throw percentage is fifth. Junior forward Anna Lutz is thirf in the League in blocks (23), sitting 10 behind the Raider leader Amaya Staton.
HISTORY VS. MILWAUKEE
The Raiders hold a tight 36-35 all-time record over Milwaukee, last facing the Panthers in Milwaukee on January 2 of this year, where MKE took the 2025 opener 75-50. Last season, the two faced each other three times, going 1-1 in the regular season, with the Raiders defeating Milwaukee 70-60 in the Horizon League Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, junior guard Rylee Sagester was the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, being named the Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to their first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over the two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three, going five-of-eight from behind the arc. She averaged 10 points per game, leading the team alongside Claire Henson with 15 points against UDM, sinking four-of-five from three.
RECORD MATCHED
On Sunday, January 12, in a 77-62 win over Youngstown State, Amaya Staton matched the program record for blocks in a game, recording seven on the day. The record had been previously set over 40 years prior by Christi Hill against Georgetown on January 16, 1982.
STAT STUFFING HALF
Junior forward Chloe Chard Peloquin tallied a career best of five blocks in the conference opener at Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, December 4. The Johnstown, Ohio native recorded all five blocks in the first half. She is the first Raider to accomplish the feat since Richelle van der Keijl in the 2015-16 season. As a team, Wright State had not tallied five blocks in this season, last doing so in at IU Indy on January 11, recording five blocks in the first half and six in the second.
RECORD FROM RANGE
Rylee Sagester put up career highs two consecutive outing, first on Friday, November 6, leading the team with a career high 17 points at Oakland. The redshirt-freshman recorded all but two points from behind the arc, shooting 5-of-11 on the night, a career best, while going two-for-two on the free throw line. Sagester followed, adding seven more points against Cleveland State on Monday, December 16, recording all 24 points from three. The redshirt-freshman is currently ranked 44th nationally with a 44.2 three-point percentage.
STATON HAS 'EM SEEING DOUBLE
Amaya Staton is no stranger to dual-figure stats, putting up a double-double for three consecutive games (Nov. 15-24). Staton's first of the back-to-back-to-back double-doubles came at home on November 15, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds against Tennessee State; then at Bellarmine on November 21, grabbing 11 rebounds and leading the team with 15 points, and again against Ohio with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lorain, Ohio native was the first Raider to see three consecutive double-doubles since Lexi Smith in the 2016-17 season; and as of November 25, Staton was one of just 11 other NCAA Division I women's basketball players to do so in the 2024-25 season.
CAREER HIGH SEASON OPENER
The Raiders opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chloe Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
