Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Raiders fall in heartbreaker Thursday night on the road

YOUNGSTOWN – A Keaton Norris jumper with 11 seconds remaining gave the Wright State men's basketball team a one-point lead, but Youngstown State responded with a basket on the other end to hand the Raiders an 88-86 road loss Thursday night despite having four players in double digits scoring.

Wright State (11-12, 5-7 Horizon) was led by Brandon Noel's 23 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, as he logged his second-straight double-double. Norris turned in 17 points with a trio of three-pointers, adding six rebounds and five assists, while Jack Doumbia finished with 14 points while chipping in four assists and three rebounds. Alex Huibregtse was the final Raider in double figures with 12 points on four three-pointers.

The Raiders led 50-36 at the break, rolling off 13 straight points at the midway point of the half as part of a larger 18-4 scoring run. A Norris jumper with 12:05 to play pushed the Wright State lead to 17 before Youngstown State (14-9, 8-4 Horizon) made its move and began to chip away. Youngstown State connected on two free throws with just under five minutes remaining to cut the Raider advantage to five at 74-69. Wright State pushed the lead back to seven with 2:26 to play on a Doumbia jumper, which was answered by the hosts with seven of the next nine points to pull Youngstown within two at the 1:16 mark.

A final minute flurry saw Youngstown State take its first lead since the 12:27 mark of the first half thanks to an EJ Farmer layup with 19 seconds remaining. Norris responded with his baseline jumper the next trip down the floor as the Raiders regained the lead before the final moments played out.

Wright State finished the night shooting 56 percent overall (32-of-57) from the floor, connecting at over 50 percent in both halves, while the Raiders hit 11 three-pointers – nine in the first half – to shoot 41 percent (11-of-27). Youngstown State bounced back from shooting 38 percent in the first 20 minutes to end the night at 48 percent overall (29-of-61) while hitting 10-of-31 (32 percent) from deep.

The Raiders were 11-of-14 (79 percent) from the free throw line, while Youngstown State went to the free throw line 27 times, finishing 20-of-27 (74 percent) at the stripe.

Youngstown State saw five players combine for all but eight of its 88 points, with Farmer turning in 23 points and Ty Harper finishing with 17 points.
