Women’s Basketball to Wrap Up Non-Con Play at #12 Kentucky

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (5-8, 1-2 HL) will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule Friday evening against #12 Kentucky. Tip-off in Lexington is set for 6:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kentucky enters Friday's game at 11-1 on the season and is currently ranked twelfth in the NCAA Top 25. The Wildcats have won their last four games, suffering their only loss of the season to Maryland in Puerto Rico.
The Wildcats feature a stout defense that is fourth in the country in scoring and field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 50.7 points per game on just 31.5% shooting. Kentucky does this by protecting the rim better than anyone in the country, averaging 8.2 blocks per game. Leading the way is reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year Clara Strack with 2.7 blocks and 1.7 steals per game. Strack is currently fourth in the country in blocks with 32 on the season.
Kentucky features a balanced offensive attack with five Wildcats averaging double-digit points. Strack leads the way with 15.5 points per game, followed by Tonie Morgan (12.8), Jordan Obi (12.3), Teonni Key (11.0), and Amelia Hassett (10.5). Strack also leads the team in rebounds with 10 rebounds per game. Asia Boone is the first option off the bench for the Wildcats and is shooting a team-best 35.8% from beyond the arc.
HISTORY VS. KENTUCKY
Friday's game will mark the second all-time meeting between Wright State and Kentucky. The previous meeting took place in the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament, with the Wildcats coming out on top, 106-60.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders were tripped up by Youngstown State Tuesday evening, falling to the Penguins 46-65
WSU got balanced scoring with eight different Raiders finding their way onto the scoresheet, led by Breezie Williams with 10 points, followed by Lauren Scott with eight and Claire Henson with seven. Williams also led the Raiders with five rebounds and tied Rylee Sagester for the team-lead in assists with three.
Wright State started the game off well and led by one point after the first quarter, thanks to two early three-pointers by Williams. The Raiders and Penguins battled back and forth in the second quarter, with Youngstown State holding a two-point lead entering the locker room at halftime.
The Raiders knocked down three of their four three-pointers in the third quarter to keep themselves within striking distance in the fourth quarter. The Penguins finished the game on a 26-6 run across the final 12 minutes of the game to close out the game and build their largest lead of the game.
In the box score, Wright State trailed Youngstown State in rebounds (31-38), points in the paint (14-28), second-chance points (0-13), and fastbreak points (5-11). The Penguins outshot the Raiders from the floor (42.9-29.6) and from beyond the arc (38.8-38.9).
RAIDERS ON THE ROAD
Wright State is wrapping up a four-game road skid that has included stops at Purdue Fort Wayne (Dec. 7), Canisius (Dec. 12), Youngstown State (Dec. 16), and Kentucky (Dec. 19). The Raiders have played six of their last seven games away from the Nutter Center dating back to November 22.

BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 11.8 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game across her first 13 games in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio, native is shooting 40.4% from the floor 32.7% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.2 steals per game. Williams is 13th in the Horizon League in points per game (11.8) and fourth in steals per game (2.2). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds.
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 42.9% from beyond the arc, which is a team best and second in the Horizon League. Nationally, Sagester is tied for 30th in three-pointers made with 30 and is 116th in three-pointers per game with 2.3. Sagester's 30 three-pointers sit her atop the Horizon League standings above Cleveland State's Colbi Maples. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in nine of the Raiders' 13 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 97 rebounds so far this season. Henson is third in the Horizon League with 7.5 rebounds per game. The senior grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Ohio on November 22, topping her previous high of 12 against Bellarmine earlier this season. The senior has grabbed eight or more rebounds in seven of Wright State's 11 games.
Henson also has a team and conference high of three double-doubles. The senior has recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb.), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.).
