Raiders rack up Top 15 finishes at Tiger Opener

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Wright State indoor track & field season began in earnest for the Raiders on Saturday, with nearly 40 student-athletes competing at the Tiger Opener over at Wittenberg. Wright State got the season started on the right foot, seeing 40 Raiders finish inside the Top 15 in a multitude of events in a successful day of action.

Wright State recorded 25 total Top 15 finishes on the men's side, led by freshman Thomas Cook's title in the men's high jump with his 2.10m clearance. The Raiders had six total athletes in the top 10 in the event, with Aboubacar Soumahoro clearing 2.00m to finish fourth and Greyson Pollock in fifth with his 1.94m mark. Soumahoro added a second-place finish with his 13.40m mark in the men's triple jump, while Jahi McDonald was third in the men's long jump with his 6.72m mark to lead a trio of Raiders inside the top 15.

A total of 10 Raiders ran in the men's mile, with Jack Fleming pacing the group with his 4:22.38 time in third, followed by Logan Eggert (4th, 4:25.19), Aiden Clendenin (6th, 4:28.37) and Michael Cole (7th, 4:28.87). Freshman Ricky Sibila turned in a 15:01.04 time in the men's 5,000 meters to finish sixth and lead five Raiders in the event.

The Wright State women turned in 15 total Top 15 finishes, with freshman Olivia Cercone leading the pack with her 9.40 second time to finish third in the finals of the women's 60m hurdles, with teammate Katlyn Delgado-Heaberlin finishing seventh in the same event with a 9.81 second time. The Raiders finished with five athletes in the Top 15 in the women's 800-meter run, paced by Ava Bosticco in eighth with a 2:48.24 time, followed by Cercone in 10th with a 2:51.30 mark.

Wright State also had several strong showings in women's field events, with Heidi Stammen clearing 3.35m to finish third in the women's pole vault to lead a trio of Raiders in the event. Five Raiders were inside the Top 15 in the women's high jump, with Taryn Stills tallying a 1.56m mark for a fourth-place finish, followed by Adriana Kremer in sixth after her 1.53m mark.

Wright State will take a month-long break from competition for the holidays after this weekend's opening action of the indoor season. The Raiders return to action at the Mastodon Invitational on January 17, kicking off a stretch that will see the Raiders compete in eight competitions ahead of the Horizon League Indoor Championships on February 28 and March 1, hosted by Youngstown State.
