Track & Field turns in productive day in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Wright State indoor track & field teams got back to action for the first time in the 2026 calendar year on Saturday, with the Raiders turning in 37 Top 10 finishes at the Mastodon Invitational, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.

Of those Top 10 finishes, 22 were inside the top five, with four Raiders coming home as first-place winners.

Thomas Cook cleared 2.00m as he captured the men's high jump, while Jahi McDonald tallied a 6.72m mark in his first attempt to win the men's long jump. On the track, Kaitlyn Miller took the top spot in the women's 3,000m run at 10:25.72 as Hunter Thompson won the men's 400m race with his 50.83 second mark.

Behind Cook in the high jump, Aboubacar Soumahoro (second) and Landon Monnin (fourth) each turned in 1.95m marks, with Soumahoro clearing the mark on his second attempt and Monnin on his third attempt, while McDonald was fifth at 1.90m. After McDonald's long jump win, Huery Reed was fourth at 6.53m with Greyson Pollock (sixth, 6.36m) and Jacob Holbert (eighth, 6.13m) also in the top 10. Soumahoro added a second-place finish in the triple jump at 13.62m, while Oliver Murray cleared 4.65m in the men's pole vault to finish second in that event.

The Wright State women had four of the top 10 finishers in the 3,000m run, with Samantha Seas turning in a 10:46.05 mark for sixth, with Shelby Hept eighth (10:52.66) and Sydney Thompson ninth (10:53.46) behind Miller's winning mark. The women's 4 x 400 team of Mia Wyngarden, Alexa West, Alexa Magoteaux and Luci Kuh earned a second-place finish with their 4:22.54 mark.

Wright State will be back in action on January 23 in a pair of meets, with Raiders at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville and at the Cedarville Collegiate Invite closer to home.
