Women’s Basketball Travels to Youngstown State for Thursday Night Matchup

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team is staying on the road, traveling to Youngstown on Thursday, February 13. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State moved to 4-11 in the Horizon League after falling to Purdue Fort Wayne 74-52 on Saturday. WSU ended the day shooting 32.8 percent overall from the floor as Amaya Staton led the team with her ninth double-double of the season, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds. Joining in double-figure scoring was Claire Henson with 11 points. Makiya Miller added eight points for the Raiders, and Florrie Cotterill six. Miller led the team in assists, recording three on the day, followed by Olivia Brown, Henson, and Lauren Scott with two each.
Following Staton's 11 rebounds was Henson grabbing nine and Brown five. The Raiders had four steals on the day with one each by Brown, Chloe Chard Peloquin, Miller, and Staton.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State is currently 9-15 on the season, sitting ninth in the Horizon League with a 4-10 conference record. The Penguins recently fell at Green Bay, 58-47, and Milwaukee, 61-56.
As a team, YSU is shooting 37.2 percent from the floor, 27.9 from three, and 70.4 on the free throw line. The 'Guins are second in the HL, averaging 3.7 blocks per game, and lead the league in offensive rebounds per game. (11.1)

Graduate forward Amaya Staton secured her seventh double-double of the season in just two periods in a 75-67 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, February 1. Staton was in double-figures in scoring and rebounding at the half, tallying a team leading 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Staton ended the day recording 16 points while grabbing 13 off the backboard.
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, junior guard Rylee Sagester was the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, being named the Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to their first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over the two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three, going five-of-eight from behind the arc. She averaged 10 points per game, leading the team alongside Claire Henson with 15 points against UDM, sinking four-of-five from three.
SHOWING OFF IN THE CLASSROOM
The Wright State women's basketball team shines both on and off the court, as all 13 student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better after the Fall 2024 Semester. Additionally, the team ended the Fall semester with the highest term grade point average of the department, combining for a 3.753. Cumulatively, the team holds a 3.615 grade point average.
