WISE, Virginia – The Wright State baseball team opened the 2025 season with two wins over Longwood on Friday, February 14, winning 12-1 in game one and 14-8 in game two. The Raiders will finish the three-game series on Saturday, February 15 at 5:00 p.m. Due to inclement weather and scheduling conflicts, Longwood will provide limited live stats for the series finale on GameChanger. Final game stats will be posted after the conclusion of the event.

GAME 1 – Wright State 12, Longwood 1
The Raiders opened the season with a dominant 12-run performance on 14 hits with four walks and ten strikeouts. Leading the team was
Patrick Fultz,
JP Peltier, and
Boston Smith, each putting up three hits.
Hunter Warren followed, recording two hits in his collegiate debut.
Will Cook,
Conlan Daniel, and
Nate Manley each added a single hit in game one of the doubleheader. Wright State had four extra-base hits in the season opener, made up of a double each by Peltier and Warren and two homers by Smith.
The Raiders took a 6-0 lead after the first two innings, first scoring as Daniel entered to pinch run after
Gus Gregory reached on an error, advancing to second on a Smith single to right field. Daniel was the first Raider to cross home plate, scoring after Peltier reached on an error and advanced to second, pushing Smith to third. Fultz gave a sacrifice fly for Smith to score, followed by Warren singling to right field to send Peltier across home plate. The Raiders continued in the top of the second, as Daniel reached on an error, advancing to second on a balk, and to third after Peltier flew out to right field. After Smith was walked, Fultz put up an RBI single through the right side to send Daniel around the diamond for a second time. Warren followed with a two-RBI double to center field, allowing Fultz and Smith to score the sixth Raider run in less than two innings.
Wright State had a one-two-three third inning before Smith had his first homer of the day, giving the Raiders a 7-0 lead in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth, Peltier reached on a double to right field, scoring on a Fultz RBI-single, 8-0. Longwood added their only run of the first game in the bottom of the seventh, stealing home for an unearned run, 8-1. The Raiders answered in the top of the eighth as Daniel reached on a single through the right side, stealing second before being sent home on Smith's second home run of the day. Wright State added their final two runs as
Luke Arnold reached on a hit by pitch, advancing to second after
Dane Thomas was walked, before Daniel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Smith recorded an RBI-walk sending Arnold to score, taking a ten-run lead, 11-1. The final run of the first game came as an RBI-single to first by Peltier, allowing Thomas to score, 12-1.
Griffen Paige started on the mound for the Raiders, putting in four innings of work, allowing only two hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.
Warren Hartzell (1-0) was awarded the win after pitching two innings, allowing just one hit while walking one batter, recording three strikeouts. Freshman left-handed pitcher,
Caleb Ehling, made his collegiate debut pitching one inning, allowing one hit with one run, unearned, striking out one batter.
Malachi Paplanus also made his collegiate debut, striking out four in two hitless innings with no walks.
Starting pitcher for the Lancers, Alek Elges (0-1), was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits, one earned, with two walks and three strikeouts in three and two-third innings on the mound. Longwood finished with one run on four hits with 15 strikeouts, led by Casey Gibbs stealing home in the seventh.
GAME 2 – Wright State 14, Longwood 8
In game-two of the double header, the Raiders finished with 14 runs on 16 hits with six walks and five strikeouts. Leading the way for WSU was redshirt-freshman
Hunter Warren, tallying four hits in six at bats.
Patrick Fultz followed with three hits, while
Will Cook,
Conlan Daniel, and
JP Peltier each put up two.
Luke Arnold,
Nate Manley, and
Boston Smith each added a single hit for the Raiders. The Raiders had three home runs in the second game, one each by Arnold, Cook, and Peltier.
The Raiders added one run in the first, as Smith reached on an error, advancing to second as Fultz grounded out to first base, scoring on an error after Warren singled to left field. The Lancers took a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the first, putting up a two-RBI double and scoring on a wild pitch before adding a two-RBI triple to center field and a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Raiders answered Longwood's six-run first inning with back-to-back homers. The first came after Manley reached on a single for Cook to put up a two-RBI home run to right field. Arnold followed with a solo home run to right field, cutting the Lancers' lead to two, 6-4. In the third, Fultz reached on a single to center field, advancing to third on a Warren single, and scoring on an RBI-ground out by Manley.
Mychal Grogan held Longwood scoreless in the bottom of the third, allowing WSU to take the lead with a Peltier two-RBI homer in the fourth, 7-6.
The Raiders reached double digits in the fifth, as Cook reached on a walk, followed by Arnold on an error, before Daniel put up a single through the left side to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Peltier singled through the left side, allowing Cook to find home plate. Smith followed with a two-RBI single to center field sending Daniel and Arnold to score, making it 10-6. Fultz added the final hit of the inning, singling up the middle for Peltier to score, 11-6. The Lancers added two runs in the bottom of the fifth, first scoring on a double to left field, and against on a ground out to second, 11-8.
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth, but the Raiders regained their five-run advantage in the seventh, starting as
Dane Thomas reached on a walk, moving to second on a Daniel bunt single. Peltier reached on a fielder's choice as Daniel was out at second. A Smith hit by pitch advanced Peltier to second for a Warren single through the left side to send Thomas and Peltier to home plate, 13-8. The final run of the day came in the top of the ninth, as Smith was walked, advancing to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a Fultz single to center field. Smith was sent home on a Warren single to center field, ending the day with a 14-8 victory.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Cam Allen earned his first win of the season, pitching two innings while allowing no runs or hits, walking two batters and getting two strikeouts.
Garrett Peters was awarded the save after pitching the final three innings, allowing no runs, hits, or walks, while striking out five batters.
Lancer starting pitcher Guillermo Garcia was charged with the loss after pitching four and a third innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Longwood finished the second game with eight runs on four hits with eight walks and 12 strikeouts. Leading the way for the Lancers was Miles Webb, tallying three RBI, first with a two-RBI double in the first, and again with an RBI-double in the fifth.
