Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Career night from Callaghan paces four in double digits Friday

MILWAUKEE – Solomon Callaghan tallied a career-best 16 points and Brandon Noel finished with a game-high 25 points, but the Wright State men's basketball team was unable to grab a Friday night road win, falling 88-80 in overtime at Milwaukee.

Wright State (13-14, 7-9 Horizon) used late heroics to force the extra session, with Wisconsin native Alex Huibregtse connecting on a three-pointer in the corner with nine seconds remaining – his lone triple of the night – before the Raider defense held strong in the closing moments as the horn sounded.

The momentum stopped there, however, as Milwaukee (17-9, 10-5 Horizon) scored the first eight points of overtime and the Raiders were unable to claw back.

Wright State used a 16-point run midway through the first half to lead by as many as 14 at 31-17 before Milwaukee answered with a run of its own and went into the locker room with a one-point, 39-38 advantage. The first 20 minutes were nearly identical for the two teams, with connecting on 14-of-27 shots from the floor. The only difference came with one additional free throw for Milwaukee.

The second half was back-and-forth from start to finish, with the Raiders leading by as many as eight early in the period thanks to a quick, six-point scoring run, only to see Milwaukee respond with its own run to set up the finish.

Noel finished the night 9-of-16 from the floor with a trio of three-pointers, going 4-of-4 at the free throw line as he added seven rebounds, two assists a block and a steal. The 25 points marked the 15th time this season he has tallied 20-plus points, while Friday was his third straight game with 25 or more points.

Callaghan tallied eight points in both the first and second halves on the way to his career night, going 6-of-7 overall from the floor with a perfect 4-of-4 mark from three-point range. It was Callaghan's second-straight double-digit scoring effort and his fifth overall this year, surpassing a pair of 15-point performances (Kentucky, USF) and 12-point games (Oakland, IU Indy).

Huibregtse collected nine of his 11 points in the second half, while Michael Imariagbe had 10 points of his own as the final Raider in double figures. Logan Woods added eight points, Jack Doumbia chipped in six and Andrea Holden had four points as well.

Wright State finished the night shooting 48 percent overall (29-of-60) and was 10-of-19 (53 percent) from three-point range. Milwaukee connected at 50 percent overall (33-of-66) and had five three-point baskets (5-of-13, 38 percent). The Raiders were 12-of-16 (75 percent) at the free throw line, while Milwaukee was 77 percent on 17-of-22 at the line.

The game featured 12 ties and five lead changes, while the Raiders were outrebounded, 35-32, after Milwaukee entered the game averaging 10.9 rebounds more than its opponent.

Five Milwaukee players combined for 69 of its 88 points, led by Themus Fulks' 21 points.
