Women’s Basketball returns home for Pink Game against Oakland

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team will return home for their annual Pink Game on Wednesday, February 19, taking on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.

Wright State defeated Youngstown 78-76 in overtime on Thursday, February 13, shooting 37.9 percent from the field, 24.1 percent from three, and 70 percent (21-of-30) from the free-throw line.
Amaya Staton recorded a season-best 23 points and matched her career high with 16 rebounds for a double-double, her tenth of the season. Joining in the double-figure scoring were Lauren Scott with 13 points and Macie Taylor with 10 points. Claire Henson added nine points for the Raiders, leading the team with six assists.
Henson added nine rebounds, while Olivia Brown chipped in five. The Raiders also tallied six steals and one block.

Oakland is currently 8-17 on the season, sitting seventh in the Horizon League with a 6-10 conference record. The Golden Grizzlies are on a four-game losing streak, recently falling to Milwaukee 61-49.

A native of Lorain, Ohio, Staton led the team to a 78-76 overtime win at Youngstown State on Thursday, February 13. The graduate forward tallied her tenth double-double of the season, recording a season-best 23 points and matching a career high 16 rebounds. Staton ended the night shooting 7-of-12 from the floor, going nine-of-ten on the free throw line.

Graduate forward Amaya Staton secured her seventh double-double of the season in just two periods in a 75-67 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, February 1. Staton was in double-figures in scoring and rebounding at the half, tallying a team leading 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Staton ended the day recording 16 points while grabbing 13 off the backboard.
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, junior guard Rylee Sagester was the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, being named the Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to their first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over the two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three, going five-of-eight from behind the arc. She averaged 10 points per game, leading the team alongside Claire Henson with 15 points against UDM, sinking four-of-five from three.
SHOWING OFF IN THE CLASSROOM
The Wright State women's basketball team shines both on and off the court, as all 13 student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better after the Fall 2024 Semester. Additionally, the team ended the Fall semester with the highest term grade point average of the department, combining for a 3.753. Cumulatively, the team holds a 3.615 grade point average.
