Women’s Basketball Heads to Fort Wayne for Saturday Matchup

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team is back on the road, traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Saturday, February 8. The game is set for a 4 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State moved to 4-10 in the Horizon League after falling to IU Indy 80-68 on Wednesday night. WSU ended the night shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, going 3-of-12 from three.
Amaya Staton led the team with her eighth double-double of the season, 15th career, recording a season best 22 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. Joining in the double-figure scoring were Claire Henson and Makiya Miller with 13 points each. Leading the team in assists was Miller with four, followed by Olivia Brown with three.
Following Staton's 11 rebounds was Henson, grabbing six on the night. Miller led the team with three of the Raiders' seven steals, followed by Brown and Henson with two steals each.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Purdue Fort Wayne is currently 19-5 on the season, sitting atop the Horizon League with an undefeated 14-0 conference record. The Mastodons recently extended their winning streak to 16 games, defeating Oakland 75-46.
As a team, the 'Dons are shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, sit No. 18 nationally with a 36.5 three-point percentage, and are shooting 76.3 on the free throw line. PFW leads the league in bench points per game (22.6), steals per game (10.3), and turnovers forced per game (19.54).
Leading the Mastodons in scoring is two-time HL Player of the Week Lauren Ross, averaging 16.4 points per game, third in the HL, with a 48.2 field goal percentage (2nd HL). Ross's 49.0 three-point percentage ranks second in the nation behind T'yanna Todd of Boston College (50.4 percent). Amellia Bromenschenkel leads PFW in rebounding, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, closely trailed by Ross with 5.1 rebounds per game.

Graduate forward Amaya Staton secured her seventh double-double of the season in just two periods in a 75-67 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, February 1. Staton was in double-figures in scoring and rebounding at the half, tallying a team leading 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Staton ended the day recording 16 points while grabbing 13 off the backboard.
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, junior guard Rylee Sagester was the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, being named the Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to their first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over the two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three, going five-of-eight from behind the arc. She averaged 10 points per game, leading the team alongside Claire Henson with 15 points against UDM, sinking four-of-five from three.
SHOWING OFF IN THE CLASSROOM
The Wright State women's basketball team shines both on and off the court, as all 13 student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better after the Fall 2024 Semester. Additionally, the team ended the Fall semester with the highest term grade point average of the department, combining for a 3.753. Cumulatively, the team holds a 3.615 grade point average.
