FORT WAYNE, Indiana – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Purdue Fort Wayne 74-52 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will stay on the road, traveling to Youngstown State on Thursday, February 13. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.
Wright State (6-19, 4-11 HL) ended the day shooting 32.8 percent overall from the floor as
Amaya Staton led the team with her ninth double-double of the season, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds. Joining in double-figure scoring was
Claire Henson with 11 points.
Makiya Miller added eight points for the Raiders, and
Florrie Cotterill six. Miller led the team in assists, recording three on the day, followed by
Olivia Brown, Henson, and
Lauren Scott with two each.
Following Staton's 11 rebounds was Henson grabbing nine and Brown five. The Raiders had four steals on the day with one each by Brown,
Chloe Chard Peloquin, Miller, and Staton.
Purdue Fort Wayne held a 33-19 lead at the half, holding the Raiders to shooting 22.6 percent from the floor. Miller led the team in scoring at the half, tallying eight points with a turnaround jumper, a three-pointer, and shooting three-of-four on the line. Staton followed with seven points, going three-of-seven from the floor and one-of-one on the line. Henson led the team in rebounding at the half, grabbing five off the backboard, closely trailed by Brown and Staton with four rebounds each. The Raiders had two blocks in the first half, with one each by
Abbie Riddle and Staton.
The Raiders shot 41.7 percent overall in the second half, led in scoring by Henson with 11 points, followed by Staton with six points. Staton led the team in rebounding, grabbing seven off the backboard. WSU's best scoring run began at the end of the third, with a Staton layup at the buzzer. Henson followed with a turnaround jumper just 20 seconds into the fourth and made it a three-point play on the line. Scott extended the run to seven with a fast break driving layup. The final quarter was the closest of the day, as PFW outscored the Raiders by just one, 19-18, while WSU bested the Mastodons in rebounds 10-7.
Purdue Fort Wayne (20-5, 15-0 HL) extended their win streak to 17, shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 23.8 from three, going 9-of-12 on the line. The Mastodons were led by Lauren Ross with 20 points. Sydney Graber followed, leading the team with 12 rebounds, making it a double-double with 15 points. Jordan Reid joined in the double-figure scoring with 14 points on the day.
