
Raiders off to a strong start at Peoples Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – The Wright State golf team is sixth after the opening 18 holes on Thursday at the Peoples Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort, with Andrew Flynn leading the way individually in a tie for seventh at four-under heading into the second round.

Wright State will play in the afternoon on Friday, teeing off from the 10th hole between 1:20-2 p.m., again paired with UNC Greensboro and Francis Marion after playing with the two teams on Thursday.

As a group, the Raiders were two-under with a team scorecard of 282 on Thursday, bunched up around several teams right ahead of them, while UNC Greensboro is the team leader at 16-under after matching a tournament record low round with a 268. Individual leader Jake Lewis of UNC Greensboro carded an eight-under 63, which tied the lowest individual round in tournament history.

Flynn birdied two of his first four holes then rolled off four birdies over his back nine holes on the way to his four-under 67, while Shane Ochs and Timmy Hollenbeck each carded even par rounds of 71 and sit in a tie for 27th. Ochs notched all three of his birdies in his first nine holes while Hollenbeck had four total birdies, two on the front and two on the back nine. Adam Horn sits two shots back in a tie for 53rd after his two-over opening round 73 that featured three birdies, while Brock Rumpke carded a five-over first round 76 with three birdies of his own to sit tied for 83rd.

The Raiders also have a pair of players competing as individuals away from the team scoring, with Ali Berker tied for 40th after a one-over opening round 72 that saw three birdies, all on his back nine, while Ian Asch (t115th) notched a 10-over 81 to start his tournament action.
