OXFORD, Mississippi – The Wright State baseball team fell to Ole Miss 7-3 in the series finale at Swayze Field. The Raiders will return to Nischwitz Stadium for the 2025 home opener on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 p.m. Admission to the game against Miami (OH) will be free, and live stats will be available.
Wright State (3-6) tallied three runs on five hits, drawing two walks while striking out 17 times.
Boston Smith led the team with two hits, including a three-run homer in the third.
Conlan Daniel and
Nate Manley each added a double for the Raiders, while
Cam Gilkerson had a single. Daniel and
Hunter Warren were each walked once.
Ole Miss opened the scoring with three runs in the first, capitalizing on a two-RBI single up the middle and a groundout to second.
After a scoreless second inning, the Raiders tied the score at three in the third. Manley led off the inning with a double to left-center, and Daniel followed with a walk. With a 2-1 count, Smith launched a home run to right field, driving in three runs to tie the game.
The Rebels quickly responded in the bottom of the third, reclaiming the lead at 4-3 on a passed ball. The Raiders held Ole Miss scoreless in the fourth, but two home runs made it a 7-3 game in the fifth. Neither team recorded a hit until the eighth, when Daniel doubled down the right-field line for the final hit of the game.
Chet Lax started on the mound for the Raiders, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout in an inning of work.
Cam Allen (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing one run without surrendering a hit. Allen pitched two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.
Joey Valentine closed for WSU, pitching the final inning, allowing no runs or hits while recording one strikeout.
Ole Miss finished with seven runs on eight hits with seven walks and five strikeouts. Nearly every Rebel in the lineup recorded a hit, with Austin Fawley and Judd Utermark each hitting a home run. Relief pitcher Mason Morris (1-0) earned the win after pitching three innings, allowing no runs or hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Rebels starter Mason Nichols pitched the first four innings, striking out 10 while allowing three runs on four hits and one walk.
