DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team defeated Miami (OH) 11-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was secured with a fourth-inning grand slam by junior third baseman
Patrick Fultz.
The Raiders will be back on the road, traveling to NC State for a three-game series beginning Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9. All three games will stream on the ACC Network and have live stats provided.
Wright State (4-6) finished with 11 runs on nine hits with six walks against their six strikeouts.
Nate Manley led the team with three hits, followed by
Conlan Daniel and
Cam Gilkerson with two each. Fultz and
JP Peltier each added one hit, both putting it over the wall for a home run. Joining in the extra-base hitting were Gilkerson and Manley, putting up two doubles each.
WSU opened the game with a 2-0 lead, scoring in both the first and second innings. Leadoff hitter Peltier put the Raiders on the board with a solo home run to left field. Manley doubled through the left side and later scored on a Gilkerson RBI double to right field. Miami added a home run in the third and tied the game with an RBI ground out in the fourth.
The game did not stay tied for long, as Manley opened the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field, advancing to third on a Gilkerson double. Arnold reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Manley to score as Gilkerson was out at third. Arnold stole second before Daniel got on base on a single. The bases became loaded as Smith was hit by a pitch, allowing Fultz to crush a grand slam to left field, giving WSU a 7-2 lead.
Both teams went scoreless in the fifth, as the RedHawks added a run with an RBI hit by pitch in the sixth, 7-3. The two saw another scoreless inning, before WSU added the final runs of the day in the eighth. The Raiders added to their lead in the eighth as Arnold, Daniel, and Peltier drew walks.
Dane Thomas entered to pinch run for Peltier before Arnold scored on an RBI walk by Smith, and Daniel on a sacrifice fly by Warren.
Will Cook was walked to load the bases before Manley put up a two-RBI double, bringing home Smith and Thomas to extend the lead to 11-3.

Chet Lax (1-1) earned the win after allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Three Raiders—
Warren Hartzell,
Malachi Paplanus, and
Parker Thomas—each recorded two strikeouts, while
J.J. Thompson and
Noah Williamson added one apiece.
Miami (5-7) finished with three runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. The RedHawks recorded two extra-base hits, with Dominic Krupinski homering and Evan Appelwick doubling. Starting pitcher Patrick Mastrian (0-2) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
