Raiders, Hollenbeck capture Wright State Invitational titles

DAYTON – The Wright State golf team captured its fifth-straight Wright State Invitational team title at Heatherwoode Golf Club on Monday afternoon, with Timmy Hollenbeck capturing the individual title at 12-under.

The Raiders now get set to head to the Horizon League Championship next weekend in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida after back-to-back team titles. Wright State enters the tournament as the defending HL champions, while Andrew Flynn is the defending individual champion after he bested Hollenbeck on the second playoff hole last April.

Since finishing third in the 2019 Wright State Invitational, the first edition of the event held at Heatherwoode, the Raiders have captured the team titles in 2021, 2022 (weather shortened), 2023, 2024 and now 2025.

On Monday, Wright State expanded on its team lead, entering the day at 11-under after 36 holes and going even lower with a final round 14-under team round to finish 25-under for the tournament. Hollenbeck, who held the individual lead after the first and second rounds, carded a three-under 68 on Monday with four birdies.

Andrew Flynn turned in a final round six-under 65 to jump 12 spots from a tie for 16th up into a third-place finish, carding seven birdies to finish his 54 holes at seven-under. Adam Horn finished tied for 11th after his two-under 69 final round with five birdies to finish at three-under overall while a pair of Raiders were tied for 16th.

Ian Asch fired a three-under 68 with five birdies Monday to jump 16 spots on the way to his one-under total, while Shane Ochs notched a final round one-under 70 with five birdies of his own. Brock Rumpke collected three birdies during his final round three-over 74 to finish in a tie for 21st while Ali Berker carded a three-over 74 in his final round to finish in a tie for 45th at five-over for the tournament.

The Raiders will trek to Florida later in the week, playing a practice round on Friday before the opening round of the Horizon League Championship gets underway on Saturday. Teams will play one round per day with the third and final round coming on Monday, April 21.
