Raiders Rally in the Seventh to Shutout Xavier

DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team rallied late to shut out Xavier, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Raiders, now 25-14 on the season, will remain on home turf to host Milwaukee for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m.

On a sunny day at Nischwitz Stadium, the game got off to a slow start, with the score remaining 0-0 through the first six innings. WSU starting pitcher Chet Lax threw 5.2 innings and struck out three batters.

The Raiders broke through in the seventh inning, as JP Peltier and Cam Gilkerson drew walks, and Nate Manley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luke Arnold then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Peltier for the first run. Manley scored on a single by Carson Clark, and the final runs came when Hunter Warren doubled down the right field line, driving in Clark and Gilkerson.

Max Whitesell earned the win after tossing 1.1 hitless innings and striking out two. Malachi Paplanus secured his first save of the season, pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit, walk, or run, while striking out three.
