DAYTON – Despite building a six-run lead through five innings, the Wright State baseball team dropped the series opener to Milwaukee on Friday afternoon. The three-game set will continue on Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m.
The Panthers were first on the board, capitalizing on a throwing error in the opening frame. Wright State quickly responded in the bottom of the first, as
Braylen Blomquist ripped a double down the right field line, bringing home
Patrick Fultz,
Gus Gregory, and
Hunter Warren for a 3-1 lead.
The Raiders extended their advantage in the second. After Gilkerson singled and moved to third on back-to-back walks by
Will Cook and
Boston Smith, Gregory drove in another run with a single to right.
JP Peltier added to the cushion in the fifth, launching a three-run homer over the left field wall to score Warren and Smith and push the lead to 7-1.
Milwaukee began its comeback with a two-run homer in the fifth and surged ahead in the sixth, scoring twice on doubles, tying the game with a triple, and taking an 8-7 lead on a sacrifice fly. The Panthers added an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI single to cap the scoring.
