DAYTON – Wright State baseball's Boston Smith and JP Peltier have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-East Region teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Â
A senior catcher, Smith earned a spot on the East All-Region First Team following a record-breaking season. He finished the year batting .330 with 70 RBI and 69 hits, including a program- and Horizon League-record 26 home runs—currently tied for the most in the nation. Prior to postseason play, Smith had already broken the Wright State single-season and career home run records and now holds the Horizon League single-season mark as well. The Arcanum, Ohio native also totaled 10 doubles and two triples. Nationally, he ranks second in home runs per game (0.44), seventh in slugging percentage (.770), and tenth in walks (57).
Â
Peltier earned East All-Region Second Team honors after appearing in all but one game for the Raiders this season. The sophomore outfielder batted .303 with 71 hits and ranked third in the Horizon League and 21st nationally with 20 home runs. His 69 RBI were tied for second-most in the league and ranked in the top 50 nationally. He also finished fourth in the league in stolen bases (24) and third in total bases (147).
Â
Both players were instrumental in Wright State's historic season, helping the Raiders secure their seventh consecutive regular-season title, 10th Horizon League Championship, and 12th NCAA postseason appearance. Smith and Peltier led WSU to a landmark upset over No. 1 overall seed Vanderbilt on June 1, marking the first time in NCAA Division I baseball history that the top overall seed failed to reach the Regional Championship game.
