Box Score NASHVILLE- The Wright State Raiders' season came to an end in Sunday Night's Nashville Regional final with a 6-0 setback to the Louisville Cardinals.
The Cards put two on the board in the top half of the first off starter
Chet Lax. Louisville took advantage of a couple of fluke hits and a pair of free passes. Lax was able to turn a slow roller into a 1-2-3 double play to limit the damage. Lax would go the first two innings a day after he closed out the 7-5 victory over East Tennessee State.
Parker Thomas quieted the Louisville bats until the fifth, when the Cards scratched across another run on an RBI single. The Raiders flashed the leather that inning with
Boston Smith cutting down a would-be base stealer and
JP Peltier taking away extra bases on an inning-ending sliding catch. The Cards would build on the lead with one in the sixth and two more crossing the plate in the eighth.
The Raiders simply had no answer for freshman lefty Ethan Eberle. Eberle allowed two hits over 6.2 innings of work, walking three and striking out 11. The Raiders got runners to second and third in the seventh, but
Conlan Daniel couldn't beat out a high infield chopper.
The season concludes at 40-21 and the Raiders first regional final appearance since 2016, when they also fell to Louisville. It is the sixth 40-win campaign in the Division-I era for the program and first since head coach
Alex Sogard's first year when the team went 42-17. Â Â
