DAYTON - Wright State Director of Athletics
Joylynn Brown has announced a contract extension for Head Baseball Coach Alex Sogard.
"We're excited to announce that Head Baseball Coach Alex Sogard has signed a contract extension through 2030 to continue leading the Wright State baseball program," Brown said. "Under Alex's leadership, our team has consistently competed at a championship level, culminating in a remarkable NCAA Regional performance that included a thrilling upset over the number one overall seed Vanderbilt this season."
Sogard recently wrapped up his seventh season at the helm of the Raidergang, leading them to his second 40-win campaign. The 2025 season included his sixth-consecutive Horizon League Title and fourth Horizon League Tournament title. The Raiders earned a berth in the 2025 Nashville Regional where Wright State eliminated East Tennessee State, 7-5, as well as host and aforementioned Vanderbilt, 5-4, earning a spot in the regional final. It is the second regional final in the program's Division-I history and first since 2016.
"I want to sincerely thank Wright State University President Dr. Sue Edwards & Athletic Director
Joylynn Brown for their continued trust and support," Sogard said. "I'm incredibly fortunate to work with great assistant coaches and players who really make this program such a special place. I'm proud of what we've done to this point, but I know there is so much more for us to accomplish."Â
Wright State placed a program-record 16 players on the All-Horizon League team in 2025, including Freshman of the Year
Hunter Warren. Warren became the fifth Raider to win a Horizon League Player of the Year award under Sogard and the first Freshman of the Year honoree.
JP Peltier and
Boston Smith earned All-Region honors while Smith also garnered All-America honors from two different publications. It was the first All-America honor for the Raiders since 2021, and Smith became the third Raider named All-America under Sogard.
"Alex embodies what it means to be a Raider—his commitment to player development, competitive excellence and integrity sets the tone for our program," Brown added. "We are proud of the culture he has built and the direction we are heading. This extension as well as additional scholarship resources reflect the strong support of our university administration and our shared commitment to investing in the continued growth of our baseball program. Together, we're building on this momentum and positioning Wright State Baseball for sustained success."
In 2025, the Raiders led the Horizon League in 20 different categories.
Boston Smith hit a program and Horizon League record 26 home runs and led the league in homers, runs batted in and walks. Wright State also ranked in the top-25 in seven different categories including runs (5th), walks (14th), scoring (17th), shutouts (21st), stolen bases (22nd), home runs (25th) and hits (t-25th).
Sogard is a five-time recipient of the Horizon League Coach of the Year including each of the last three years. Since his first season in 2019, Wright State is one of five northern schools to average over 35 wins a season and have 10 or more players drafted. His Raidergang squads join elite company as one of eight schools all time to win at least six consecutive regular-season conference titles.
"Thank you to all the fans and alumni that support us yearly and thank you to my wife Arlie, and kids Fisher, Penny, Kyler and Archie for all they do to make this possible," Sogard added. "The future is bright here at Wright State and I'm so grateful to be a part of it. Go Raiders!"
