ATLANTA, GA – Wright State senior catcher Boston Smith was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon, becoming the first Raider picked this year.
Smith was drafted by the Washington Nationals with the 171st overall pick, adding to Wright State's recent legacy of professional talent.
The Raiders have now produced 21 MLB Draft selections over the last 10 drafts, dating back to 2015, and 45 total picks in program history. During that span, Tyler Black, Peyton Burdick, Sean Murphy, and Jesse Scholtens have all reached the Major Leagues.
A native of Arcanum, Ohio, Smith appeared in 185 games over four collegiate seasons– three with the Raiders– compiling a .289 batting average, .418 on-base percentage, and .625 slugging percentage. He totaled 158 RBIs and 180 hits, including 39 doubles, 10 triples, and a program-record 52 home runs.
In his final collegiate season, Smith batted .330 with 70 RBIs and 69 hits. His 26 home runs set new single-season records for both Wright State and the Horizon League, tying for the most in the nation. He also added 10 doubles and two triples. Nationally, Smith ranked second in home runs per game (0.44), seventh in slugging percentage (.770), and 10th in walks (57).
Smith earned three All-America honors in 2025, being named to the D1 Baseball, ABCA/Rawlings, and Perfect Game Second Teams. He was also selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First Team, NCAA Nashville Regional All-Tournament Team, Horizon League All-Tournament Team, and the All-Horizon League First Team.
In addition, Smith was recognized as the NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy Hitter of the Month for May, and earned Horizon League Batter of the Week honors twice (Feb. 18 and May 13).
