BOWLING GREEN, KY – The Wright State volleyball team dropped its 2025 season opener on Friday afternoon despite kills from six players, as the Raiders fell in three sets to (RV) Western Kentucky in the first match of the WKU Invitational.
Wright State (0-1) is right back to action later Friday night against Drake before finishing the weekend Saturday afternoon at noon against Loyola Chicago.

Western Kentucky (1-0) took a close opening set, 25-20, before winning another tight battle in set two, 25-18 and wrapping things up with a 25-13 final set win.
The Raiders could never get on track offensively, hitting just .084 as a group for the three sets as they tallied 21 attacking errors and 11 service errors. After Western Kentucky hit .034 with eight errors of their its own in the first set, the hosts responded to commit just six more errors in the final two sets and finished the match hitting .295 overall.
Mya Ayro paced Wright State with eight kills, adding two blocks, while
Reilly Zegunis turned in six kills and two blocks of her own. A trio of Raiders –
Taylor Bransfield,
Elena Dubuc and
Katie Sowko – each added four kills, with Bransfield adding two service aces and Sowko notching the only other Raider ace.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 25 of the Raiders' 28 assists and freshman
Taygan Corstange collected six digs to pace Wright State in her collegiate debut. Fellow freshman
Elissa Furlan also made her first collegiate appearance and
Ella Gaona (two digs) made her Raider debut in the loss.
