DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team opened weekend action with a four-set defeat against Illinois State on Friday night as part of the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Wright State (5-4) will look to bounce back on Saturday with a pair of matches, first against UC Santa Barbara at 10:30 a.m. before a 7 p.m. evening matchup with host Dayton. The Dayton match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

On Friday, the Raiders dropped the first two sets to Illinois State (5-6) by scores of 25-23 and 25-20 before rallying to take the third set 25-21, only to later fall in the fourth set in another tight set, 25-23, to close the night. Wright State finished the night hitting .236 as a group, with a high mark of .385 in the third set, while Illinois State connected at a .275 mark as a group as both sides finished with 21 errors.
Mya Ayro led the way with a match-best 14 kills, followed by 10 kills from both
Taylor Bransfield and
Reilly Zegunis as Zegunis added four blocks.
Katie Sowko added nine kills with two service aces and
Elena Dubuc turned in six kills to go along with a block, while
Lauren Yacobucci collected another double-double, finishing with 10 digs as she passed out 37 of the Raiders' 47 assists.
Taygan Corstange notched 10 digs of her own and
Greta McKee added eight digs on the back line.
Ruth Ziegler had 13 kills to pace Illinois State, led by former Raider head coach Allie Matters, while Caitlyn Little added 11 kills and nine digs.
