Men's Basketball kicks off three-game homestand Thursday

DAYTON - The Wright State men's basketball team begins a three-game homestand inside the Nutter Center on Thursday night as the Raiders and their six-game winning streak host visiting Youngstown State in Horizon League action. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and fans can follow the action several ways - watching on ESPN+, via live stats or by tuning in to the Wright State Radio Network - 101.5 FM 'The Fridge' and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the radio and television feeds.
Fans can tune into 101.5 FM 'The Fridge' or WING 1410 AM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. Solomon Callaghan's career-high 27 points led four Raiders with double figure scoring afternoons as Wright State ran its winning streak to six straight games with a 94-84 Sunday afternoon victory over Oakland in front of a nationally televised audience. Kellen Pickett also reset his career-best with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his second collegiate double-double. TJ Burch turned in 18 points of his own and Dominic Pangonis finished with 13 points.
GONE STREAKING
Wright State has won six straight games for the first time since a a six-game winning streak in February and March 2022 to close the regular season, win the Horizon League tournament and NCAA First Four game. The Raiders won seven straight games from December 18-January 12 in the 2021-22 season, while they also won nine straight in January and February 2021 in the 2020-21 campaign.
PLAYIN' PENGUINS
Wright State and Youngstown State will meet for the 73rd time on Thursday night, with the Raiders holding a 50-22 lead in the all-time series. Youngstown State won the first-ever meeting on Jan. 29, 1977 (73-71) but the Raiders bounced back with a home win Jan. 28, 1978 (60-59) in the first of five straight wins early in the series. In the first meeting back on Dec. 3, Michael Imariagbe finished with 15 points to lead Wright State, who also saw TJ Burch finish with 14 points. Sam Alamutu turned in 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench, both season-highs for him, while Andrea Holden finished with a complete stat line of 11 points, five blocks, four steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Solomon Callaghan and Kellen Pickett swept the Horizon League weekly awards, earning HL Player and Freshman of the Week honors, the League office announced on Jan. 12. Callaghan averaged 21 points for the week after a pair of double-digit scoring efforts, including a new career-high 27 points at Oakland. Callaghan finished the weekend shooting 65 percent overall and 60 percent from deep on the way to his 21.0 points per game average, adding five assists and four rebounds to his weekly stat line. Pickett averaged a double-double for the weekend, beginning with a new career-high 12-rebound effort at Detroit Mercy before an 18-point performance against Oakland. For the weekend, Pickett shot 53 percent overall on the way to his 11.5 point, 11.5 rebound double-double average.
BETTER AT THE STRIPE
After shooting over 70 percent as a group at the free throw line just three times (twice vs. Division I) in the first nine games - with four contests under 60 percent - Wright State has rallied at the free throw line and has connected at over 70 percent in seven of the last nine games - including four straight contests over 80 percent - while going a perfect 15-of-15 in Sunday's win at Oakland. Wright State is also gettng to the line more, shooting 20-plus free throws in seven of the last nine games after only shooting 20-plus four times in the first nine games of the year.
BLOCK PARTY
Wright State has recorded 11 games with five or more blocks this season after five blocks on Jan. 9 at Detroit Mercy and a season-high nine blocks Jan. 4 at IU Indy. The Raiders finished the 2024-25 season with six such games.
