Pair of school records, first place finish highlight Saturday action

SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Wright State indoor track & field teams turned in 26 Top 10 finishes on Saturday at the Steemer Showcase, with a pair of Raiders tallying new school records in the 500 meters and a first-place showing in the men's high jump.

The Raiders turned in the new school records in back-to-back events, beginning with the women's 500m race that saw Mia Wyngarden narrowly finish second but reset the top Wright State mark with her 1:19.62 time. Moments later in the men's 500m race, Hunter Thompson wrote his name in the Raider record book with his second-place finish ant 1:07.19 time.

Wright State's top finisher of the day came in the men's high jump, where Thomas Cook cleared 2.02m to bring home the top spot in the event. Teammates Nathan Bright (1.99m) and Aboubacar Soumahoro (1.93m) finished fourth and seventh, respectively.

Oliver Murray was one of four athletes to clear 4.56m in the men's pole vault to finish in a tie for second, while Heidi Stammen was one of five athletes clearing 3.30m to finish tied for sixth in the women's pole vault. Soumahoro was sixth in the men's triple jump (13.00m) and a pair of Raiders – Jacob Holbert (ninth, 6.51m) and Huery Reed (10th, 6.49m) turned in Top 10 finishes in the men's long jump. In the women's high jump, both Olivia Aills and Katlyn Delgado-Heaberlin cleared 1.48m as part of five athlete tie for fifth.

Wyngarden's school-record time in the women's 500m paced a host of Raiders, with Alexa Magoteaux just behind her in third at 1:20.26, while Elle Lambert (1:27.46), Alea West (1:28.89) and Brooke Wilson (1:30.16) finished sixth, seventh and eighth. Wyngarden, Magoteaux, West and Lambert later teamed up in the women's 4x400m for a time of 4:17.27 to finish ninth in a packed field. Hannah Falknor turned in a 26.02 second mark to finish fifth in the women's 200m and was later part of the Raider women's 4x200m team – along with Ava Hulett, Olivia Cercone and Delgado-Heaberlin – that was fifth with a 1:49.28 mark.

The men's mile saw a pair of Raiders inside the Top 10, with Patrick Statzer finishing fourth with a 4:14.81 mark and teammate Kalib Tolle finishing a 4:21.85 in 10th. Nicholas Hoelscher was seventh in the men's 800m with a 1:55.43 mark, while Evan McPherson (8:34.44) and Emmitt Slabach (8:34.87) were eighth and ninth, respectfully, in the men's 3,000m run.
Following Saturday's action, Wright State is next back in action when it competes at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open on February 6 and 7.
