DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (7-18, 3-11 HL) will kick off its annual Michigan road trip at Detroit Mercy Thursday night. Tip-off in Calihan Hall is slated for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy enters Thursday night at 5-18 on the season, and 3-11 in Horizon League play. Thursday's game is pivotal in the Horizon League standings, with Wright State and Detroit Mercy tied at 3-11. Wright State currently holds the tiebreaker over Detroit Mercy after beating them earlier this season.
Two Titans average double-digit points, led by Makayla Jackson at 10.9 points per game, followed closely by Jasmine Edwards at 10.5 points per game. Edwards also leads the team and is tied for second in the Horizon League in rebounds, hauling in eight per game.
HISTORY VS. DETROIT MERCY
Thursday night's game will mark the 70th all-time meeting between Wright State and Detroit Mercy, a series the Raiders lead 40-29. Wright State has won the last two matchups, both at the Nutter Center, but came up short against the Titans 55-67 when the two teams last met in Calihan Hall.
Earlier this season, Wright State opened 2026 with a big 82-71 win over Detroit Mercy. Breezie Williams led all players with 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting, also leading the Raiders in rebounds (6), assists (3), and steals (6). Abbie Riddle joined Williams in double-digits, finishing with 14 points Friday night.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders came up short of IU Indy Saturday afternoon in the Nutter Center, 63-73.
Breezie Williams finished with a game-high 21 points, five steals, and four assists. It marks Williams' seventh 20+ point performance and second in a row after scoring a career-high 28 points Thursday night against Purdue Fort Wayne. Lauren Scott finished with 12 points to join Williams in double digits, followed closely by Claire Henson and Rylee Sagester with eight points each.
IU Indy started the game white hot from three-point range, knocking down its first four shots of the game all from downtown. The Raiders kept pace by knocking down three triples of their own to trail 15-17 after the first 10 minutes.
The Raiders would tie the game up at 32 as they entered the locker room at halftime. Led by Williams with 14 points on six of seven from the floor and two of two from three to start the game.
The two sides exchanged buckets and runs in the third, with IU Indy holding a two-point advantage going into the final 10 minutes.
The Jaguars would pull away in the fourth quarter, knocking down one more field goal and five more free throws than the Raiders to build out to an eight-point win.
In the box score, Wright State trailed IU Indy in rebounds (23-44), bench points (16-23), and second-chance points (11-16). The Raiders led the Jaguars in points in the paint (26-20) and fast break points (11-3).
HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS
The Raiders are seventh in the league with 1,647 points and sixth in points per game, averaging 65.9 points. The Raiders are getting it done from beyond the three-point line, shooting 32.9% and knocking down a league-best 7.6 three-pointers per game.
BALL SECURITY IS JOB SECURITY
The Wright State offense has been taking care of the ball this season, averaging 13.8 turnovers per game, which ranks second in the Horizon League and 51st nationally. The Raiders also boast a 1.72 turnover margin, which ranks fourth in the Horizon League.
BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 12.8 points, 3.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio, native is shooting 40.4% from the floor and 35.6% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.w steals per game. In the Horizon League, Williams currently ranks eighth in points per game, sixth in field goal percentage, and tied for third in steals per game. On Saturday, January 19, Williams joined the 1,000 career-point club, scoring her 1,00th point on a layup with 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a then-career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and nine rebounds. Williams has turned in a team-high six 20-point performances on the season, four of which have come in Horizon League play. Most recently, the senior set a new career-high after scoring 28 points against Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night. Williams was on fire, shooting 85% from the floor and a perfect 5-5 from behind the three-point line.
ELLIE MAGIC
Wright State's Ellie Magestro-Kennedy has turned in five double-digit scoring performances in Horizon League play. The redshirt sophomore has scored 10 or more points against. Green Bay (10), IU Indy (13), Youngstown State (17), Northern Kentucky (10), and highlighted by a career-high 18 at Cleveland State. To go along with the scoring, Magestro-Kennedy has seen her role increase, playing 20+ minutes in seven of her last nine games, all of which saw her in the starting lineup.
The redshirt sophomore was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes five years ago. Daily, she is required to check blood glucose (sugar) levels, administer and adjust insulin dosages, and calculate meal carbohydrates (regular and pre- and post-workout/practice/games).
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 152 rebounds so far this season. Henson is sixth in the Horizon League with 6.6 rebounds per game. The senior has turned in 12 performances of at least seven rebounds and 10 or more three times.
Henson also has a team high of three double-doubles. The senior has recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb. (career-high)), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Fellow senior Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 38.8% from beyond the arc, which is a team best. Sagester's 47 three-pointers place her tied for fourth in the Horizon League standings. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in 16 of the Raiders' 25 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
SIZING UP THE 2025-26 SQUAD
The Raiders return nine players from last season while adding four newcomers (two transfers and two freshmen).
The squad features four seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The roster also expands not only across the nation, with four different states represented (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin), but across the globe, with three international student-athletes (England, Nigeria, Sweden).
