Women’s Basketball makes short trip to Northern Kentucky Saturday

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (10-18, 6-11 HL) will hit the road for a rivalry matchup at Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at Truist Arena is set for 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky enters Saturday at 13-15 on the season, and 10-7 in Horizon League play. The Norse currently sit tied for fourth in the Horizon League standings with Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Norse feature a dynamic freshman duo that leads not only the team in scoring but all Horizon League freshmen. Katrina Bystry leads the Norse with 14.9 points per game. Bystry excels at getting to the free-throw line with 138 makes on 169 attempts, both of which lead all freshmen. Maddie Moody trails closely behind, averaging 10.4 points per game while leading the team in rebounds per game (6.8) and blocks per game (0.6).
HISTORY VS. NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Saturday's game will mark the 37th all-time meeting between Wright State and Northern Kentucky, a series in which the Raiders hold a narrow 19-17 advantage. The Raiders swept the season series a season ago, with the most recent win coming at Northern Kentucky on February 22, 2025, a game in which Wright State was victorious 68-62.
Earlier this season, the Raiders fell to Northern Kentucky 56-82 on January 17. Breezie Williams led four Raiders in double figures with 14 points on the day. Joining Williams in double digits were Lauren Scott and Maja Dilen with 11points, and Ellie Magestro-Kennedy with 10 points. Dilen's 11 points tie a career-high for her, which she set against Youngstown State on Wednesday. Williams was tied with Grace Okih for the team high in rebounds with seven apiece. Olivia Brown led the team with five assists.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders picked up their third straight win in a 22-point rout of Milwaukee Wednesday night in the Nutter Center, winning 77-55. The win is the Raiders' third in a row after sweeping their two-game road trip in Michigan.
Lauren Scott led four other Raiders in double digits Wednesday night with a game-high 15 points, while knocking down a career-high five three-pointers. Rylee Sagester and Claire Henson (14), Breezie Williams (12), and Ellie Magestro-Kennedy (10) all joined Scott in double figures. Henson also finished with eight rebounds and a team -high seven assists, coming up just short of a triple-double. Grace Okih turned in a career-high 10 rebounds in a career-best 23 minutes to lead all players on the glass.
Wright State started the game on fire from downtown, knocking down eight of its first nine shots from behind the three-point line to jump out to a 19-point halftime lead. The Raiders did this while shooting 64% from the floor and 73% from behind the three-point line. Wright State got it done defensively, holding Milwaukee to 23 points in the first 20 minutes. Magestro-Kennedy led the Raiders at the break with 10 points, trailed closely by Sagester and Scott with nine points each.
Milwaukee attempted to make a comeback in the third quarter outscoring the Raiders 19-12 in the third quarter.
Wright State started the final quarter on an 18-5 run, ballooning its lead back up to 25 points and putting Milwaukee firmly in the rearview mirror. The Raiders knocked down four more threes in the final 10 minutes to total 14 for the game, their most against a Division I opponent this season and only trailing the 18 they hit against Wilberforce in the home opener.
In the box score, Wright State led Milwaukee in rebounds (31-29), assists (19-10), points in the paint (28-24), and second chance points (4-2), while trailing in bench points (17-21), and tied in fast break points (4-4).
WEEKEND SWEEP IN THE MITTEN
The Raiders swept their two-game road trip up to Michigan last weekend. The Raiders opened the weekend with a 78-61 win over Detroit Mercy Thursday evening before taking down Oakland 62-44 Saturday afternoon. This is the first time the Raiders have swept the weekend series in Michigan since the 2019-20 season and the first time under head coach Kari Hoffman.
HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS
The Raiders are fifth in the league with 1,864 points and seventh in points per game, averaging 66.6 points. The Raiders are getting it done from beyond the three-point line, shooting a league best 34.6% and knocking down 8.1 three-pointers per game.
BALL SECURITY IS JOB SECURITY
The Wright State offense has been taking care of the ball this season, averaging 13.7 turnovers per game, which ranks second in the Horizon League and 45th nationally. The Raiders also boast a 1.96 turnover margin, which ranks fourth in the Horizon League.
BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Breezie Williams has been on fire in the month of February. The senior is averaging 18.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting 62.1% from the floor and a stellar 71.4% from behind the three-point line. Williams kicked off the month by setting a new career-high after scoring 28 points against Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night. The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a then-career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and nine rebounds. Williams has turned in a team-high six 20-point performances on the season, four of which have come in Horizon League play. Williams joined the 1,000 career-point club, scoring her 1,000th point on a layup with 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
ELLIE MAGIC
Wright State's Ellie Magestro-Kennedy has turned in seven double-digit scoring performances in Horizon League play. The redshirt sophomore has scored 10 or more points against Green Bay (10), IU Indy (13), Youngstown State (17), Northern Kentucky (10), Detroit Mercy (16), Milwaukee (10), and highlighted by a career-high 18 at Cleveland State. To go along with the scoring, Magestro-Kennedy has seen her role increase, playing 20+ minutes in eight of her last 12 games.
The redshirt sophomore was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes five years ago. Daily, she is required to check blood glucose (sugar) levels, administer and adjust insulin dosages, and calculate meal carbohydrates (regular and pre- and post-workout/practice/games).
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 165 rebounds so far this season. Henson is seventh in the Horizon League with 6.3 rebounds per game. The senior has turned in 13 performances of at least seven rebounds and 10 or more three times.
Henson also has a team high of three double-doubles. The senior has recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb. (career-high)), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Fellow senior Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 39.3% from beyond the arc, which is a team best. Sagester's 53 three-pointers place her fifth in the Horizon League standings. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in 19 of the Raiders' 27 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
SIZING UP THE 2025-26 SQUAD
The Raiders return nine players from last season while adding four newcomers (two transfers and two freshmen).
The squad features four seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The roster also expands not only across the nation, with four different states represented (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin), but across the globe, with three international student-athletes (England, Nigeria, Sweden).
