Raiders drop series opener to Youngstown State

DAYTON- The Wright State Baseball team dropped its series opener against Youngstown State, falling 5-2

Wright State (25-24, 17-5 HL) will wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium, hosting Youngstown State for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Join the Raiders pregame for a ceremony honoring the 2026 Wright State baseball graduates and senior class.

Cam Allen got the start on the mound for the Raiders and pitched well in a no-decision. The right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters. Matthew Johnson was the first arm out of the bullpen and pitched a clean inning, striking out one Penguin batter. JJ Thompson would pitch the final two innings for the Raiders, striking out three batters.

The Raiders got on the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Braylen Blomquist drove in JP Peltier with an RBI fielder's choice to the first basemen, who threw the ball away, allowing Cy Turner to score on the error.

Youngstown State would go quiet until they took the lead with one big swing in the top of the eighth inning, when Brady Shannon parked a three-run shot over the wall in left field. Kendal Spencer would drive in a pair of insurance runs for the Penguins with a two-run double in the top of the ninth inning.
