Mike Stover will enter his first season with the Wright State baseball program after a three-year stint at Wichita State.
Stover will join the staff and assume the duties of working with the team's outfielders and hitters during practice and Stover will act as the bench coach during games. During the off-season Stover will aid assistant coach Greg Lovelady with the recruiting duties.
Stover, anative of Carlisle, Iowa, comes to WSU after spending the past three years as the Shockers outfielders and infielders coach. The Shockers advanced to the championship game of the Regional Tournament all three seasons.
While at WichitaState, Stover was helped the team post abatting average of .329 during the 2004 season and again post abatting average of .300+ during the '06 campaign. The shockers posted afielding percentage of almost .970 while stover was at Whicitah State and 730 fielding assists in the three seasons under Stover. In the three seasons at WhichitaState, the team posted 146 wins, including a51-win season in 2005, and set the Missouri Valley Conference record with 28 conference wins in '04.
During his time with the Shockers, Stover helped coach 14 players to All-MIssouri Valley Conference honors. In 2004, six WSU players were selected to the All-MVC squad including Co-Players of the Year Logan Sorenson and Brandon Green. The next season, four players were honored including Newcomer of the Year, Damon Sublett. Last year the Shockers placed four players on the All-MVC team, with Sublett honored as the Player of the Year.
Before his stint with WichitaState, Stover spent six years as an assistant coach at Simpson College, aDivision III school in Indianola, Iowa.
His playing career started as an infielder and outfielder at Kirkwood College in 1991, before Stover moved on to play at Simpson. While at Simpson, Stover garnered all-region second team honors and all-conference first team honors during the 1994 season.
Stover resides in Fairborn with his wife Lynn, son Drew and daughter Allie.
