Baseball set for road test at Oakland

DAYTON- The Wright State baseball team (19-22, 12-3 HL) will hit the road again this weekend for another Horizon League road test at Oakland.

The Raiders and Golden Grizzlies will face off at 3 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. All three games will be available to stream on ESPN+, and live stats will also be provided.

HISTORY VS. OAKLAND
Wright State and Oakland have met 85 times, coming into this weekend with the Raiders dominating the series 66-19. The Raiders took the series over the Golden Grizzlies 2-1 when the two teams met at Nischwitz Stadium in March. Wright State took the first two games of the series 12-4 and 11-5 before falling 7-10 in 10 innings in the series finale.

A season ago, the Raiders swept the season series 7-0 with the two squads meeting six times in the regular season and once in the Horizon League Championship.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland enters the weekend at 10-30 on the season, and 5-13 in Horizon League play. The Grizzlies are currently riding a nine-game losing streak, with their last win coming on April 14 at Michigan State, defeating the Spartans 11-9.

The Raiders allied to tie the game in the sixth inning before falling to Miami (OH) 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium

The Raiders got on the board first on Wednesday afternoon thanks to a Nate Manley sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Gus Gregory from third base.

The RedHawks would answer back with two runs in the top of the third and two more runs in the top of the fourth to jump out in front of the Raiders 4-1.

Miami would extend its lead in the top of the sixth inning with a solo shot off the bat of Evan Applewick.

Wright State would answer back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Duncan would get the part started, launching his second homer in as many games over the wall in left field. Braylen Blomquist continued the inning, bringing home Cy Turner on an RBI single up the middle. Patrick Fultz would put the exclamation point on the inning with a two-run RBI double over the left fielder's head to tie the game up at five runs apiece.

Miami would break the game open with nine runs in the top of the eighth inning. All eight of the RedHawks ' runs would come with two outs in the frame and were aided by six free passes.

The Raiders would get a pair of runs in the bottom half of the eighth thanks to back-to-back solo shots off the bats of Manley and Blomquist. The homer is Manley's first of the season.

Wright State has been one of the best defensive teams in the country in 2026, currently sporting a fielding percentage of 0.981. This ranks the Raiders 14th in the country and first in the Horizon League.

ROUNDING FOR THREE
Wright State has been stretching doubles into triples all season. The Raiders' 16 three-baggers and 0.39 triples per game lead the Horizon League and rank seventh and sixth in Division I baseball, respectively. Andrew Duncan leads the way with six triples on the season, good for first in the Horizon League and third in the nation. Cy Turner follows him with three on the season, good for second in the Horizon League, and 61st nationally.

Redshirt freshman Keegan Holmstrom has been a professional hitter at the dish in his first season for the Raiders. Holmstrom leads the team and the Horizon League in batting average, currently ranking in the top 100 nationally. His .373 batting average ranks 75th in the country and is .012 higher than second place in the Horizon League.

DOUBLES MACHINE
JP Peltier has been spraying extra base hits all over the field this season. The junior leads the team and the Horizon League in doubles. His 17 two-baggers also rank him 26th nationally.

TURNER TIME
Cy Turner has been heating up at the dish for the Raiders over the last two weeks. Over this stretch, the senior is hitting to the tune of a .438 batting average and a 1.530 OPS. Over this stretch, Turner is leading the Raiders in hits (14), runs scored (14), runs batted in (9), home runs (4), triples (2), and total bases (31).

SCOUTING THE 2026 SQUAD
The Raidergang returns 20 players from a season ago while adding 19 newcomers (10 transfers and nine true freshmen). The squad consists of five seniors, nine juniors, nine sophomores, and 16 freshmen.

The roster features a strong in-state contingent, with 54% of players (21) from Ohio. But the Raiders also recruit well nationally, with 13 other states being represented in the roster. The other 13 states include California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.
