ROCHESTER, MI- The Wright State baseball team got a quality start out of right-hander Cam Allen on the mound and rode a five-run sixth inning to a series-opening win over Oakland, winning 8-4.
Â
Wright State (20-22, 13-3 HL) will be back in action Saturday afternoon for game two of its three-game set at Oakland. First pitch against the Golden Grizzlies is slated for 2 p.m.
Â
Allen was great on the mound for the Raiders, pitching six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out eight Oakland batters. The outing was Allen's third quality start and fourth win of the season.
Â
Wright State would open the scoring in the top of the second when Patrick Fultz came in to score on a wild pitch. Hunter Warren would double the lead for the Raiders, ripping an RBI single through the left side, scoring Braylen Blomquist.
Â
The Raiders would break the game wide open with five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Warren and Keegan Holmstrom would get the inning started with back-to-back RBI doubles before Andrew Duncan launched a three-run blast over the wall in left. The homer is Duncan's third in as many games and fourth on the season.
Â
Oakland would get on the board with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Â
The two teams would once again exchange runs in the seventh inning, with each team bringing home a single run. Blomquist would bring home the Raiders' lone run in the frame, launching his sixth homer of the season over the wall in right field.
Â
Cooper Gilkerson was the first man out of the Wright State bullpen, pitching two innings, allowing just one run on four hits before turning the ball over to Michael Bilo, who pitched a clean ninth inning to secure the 8-4 win.
