Men Fall 71-45 at #17 LSU in Hispanic College Fund Classic

The Wright State men's basketball team trailed by only eight at the half, but #17 Louisiana State outscored the Raiders 35-17 in the second stanza to post a 71-45 victory. Senior guard DaShaun Wood was the only Raiders to score in double figures, posting 17 points in the game.

The Raiders took the early lead at 3-0 when Wood found a wide open Vaughn Duggins in the corner for a three pointer. After an LSU bucket, Wood got open at the top of the arch and knocked down the long distance shot to give WSU a 6-2 lead.

Later in the half, LSU took their first lead of the game at 7-6 when Glenn Davis connected on a three pointer at the 16:53 mark. Wright State went back on top when Drew Burleson hit a jumper from the right wing for an 8-7 Raider lead.

The Tigers would grab control of the game just a minute later and continued to widen the margin with a quick nine-to-five run. That scoring run was capped by a Darnell Lazare lay-up, giving LSU a 17-11 lead at 12:27.

The Green and Gold played the remainder of the half almost even with LSU and trailed by eight, 36-28, at half time. Wood led the Raiders with 15 points and fellow senior Burleson chipped in four points after 20-minutes of action. Wright State committed zero turnover and shot 35-percent in the first stanza, compared to LSU's 58-percent shooting.

The Tigers, now 8-3 on the season, took the opening possession of the second half the dumped it inside to Davis who converted the lay-up to put LSU on top 38-28. The Tigers outscored the Green and Gold 14-4 to open the second stanza, taking a 50-32 lead at the 15:00 mark.

The Tigers would hold the Raiders to 28-percent shooting in the second half and connected on 54-percent of their shots to claim the victory.

Wood paced the Raiders in the game with 17 points and three steals, posting double figure points in his 24th straight game dating back to the 2006 season. Burleson chipped in eight points on four-of-eight shooting and tied Jordan Pleiman with a team-high six rebounds. LSU's Davis led all scorers with 26 points and 12 rebounds and shot 77-percent from the field.

The Green and Gold fall to 5-6 overall and will take to the court tomorrow, December 28, at 6:00 against Samford. The Raiders will square off with the Bulldogs in their second game of the Hispanic College Fund Classic, Samford (6-4) won their first game against Mississippi Valley State in overtime.
