Men Win Fourth Straight, Defeat Detroit 66-59

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team posted their third consecutive road win, fourth straight victory overall, in a 66-59 triumph over Detroit. The Raiders forced 12 turnovers and dished out 15 assists in the victory.

The Green and Gold jumped on the Titans early when Todd Brown hit a three pointer from the left-wing to give WSU a 3-0 lead just sixteen seconds into the game. Four different Raiders scored to open the game and Wright State enjoyed a 9-5 lead early in the contest.

With 8:45 remaining in the first half, Will Graham picked off a UDM pass and raced towards the basket and was fouled. Graham sank both free throws and pushed Wright State's lead to ten points.

Detroit native DaShaun Wood took over the last eight minuets of the first half, scoring 11 of the Raiders' final 14 points. Wood got started with a 15-foot jumper and capped it off with a spinning jump shot in the lane.

Detroit would respond with a last second shot, as Jon Goode sank a 17-footer from the top of the key. The two-point field goal pulled UDM within ten points at 35-25 at half time.

The Raiders enjoyed a double-digit for the last eight minutes of the second half. Leading the way in the first half for WSU was Wood, posting 15 points and handing out three assists.

The Titans cut into the Raiders lead early in the second half. Brandon Cotton scored four points and Ryvon Covile hit a lay-up to pull within six at 37-31. After Cotton's lay-up pulled the Titans within six, freshman Vaughn Duggins knocked down a three pointer from the corner.

Later in the half, Jordan Pleiman pushed the Raiders lead back to 14 points with a backdoor lay-up on an assist from Graham. On the next possession, Graham nailed a three pointer from the corner to push the Raiders lead to 17 points. The Graham three capped a 15-4 run by the Raiders and gave them their biggest lead of the game.

Detroit wouldn't quit, as the Titans used a nine point run over the next four minutes to pull within eight points at 52-44. The Raiders were too much for Detroit down the stretch, knocking down ten free throws in the final three minutes to preserve the victory.

In the game, the Raiders shot 47-percent from the field and four different players scored in double-figures. Wood led all scorers with 21 points and Todd Brown posted 15. Senior Drew Burleson chipped in 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Duggins netted ten points and handed out a game-high five assists in the contest.

With the win, Wright State swept the regular-season series with Detroit for the first time since 1996 and will post an overall winning record for the first time since 2001. In 2001, the Raiders posted a record of 17-11, a win mark that will be equaled with the Raiders next victory.

The Green and Gold are now 16-8 overall and 9-2 in Horizon League play. Their next game will be on Monday, February 5 when they host Milwaukee at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:00 start.
