Men Roll to 76-50 Win Over Milwaukee

Box Score

The Wright State men's basketball team trailed for much of the first half, but dominated the final 27:51 by outscoring Milwaukee 59-27, including 17-0 to start the second half, in rolling to a 76-50 Horizon League victory over the Panthers Monday night at the Nutter Center.

Wright State took its first lead of the game at 14-12 on a Todd Brown jumper at the 12:17 mark of the first half and again went up two on a Jordan Pleiman layup, but the Panthers followed with a 9-1 run, including threes from Ricky Franklin and Avery Smith, to go up 23-17 with 7:51 remaining.

A DaShaun Wood three, however, proved to be the turning point for the Raiders as it kicked off a 15-0 run, featuring another Wood three and one from Vaughn Duggins, to put Wright State ahead for good at 32-23.

Milwaukee closed the margin to 35-29 at the break, but WSU put the game out of reach with a 17-0 run over the opening 4:47 of the second half, 13 of those coming from Todd Brown. The Raiders gradually built on the lead from there and led by as much as 70-38 with 5:44 left.

Wright State shot 50 percent from the field for the contest compared to just 30 percent for UWM and outscored the Panthers in the paint 30-10 and in fast-break points 19-0. WSU also forced 20 turnovers while committing only nine, resulting in a 24-9 differential in points off of turnovers.

Wood led all scorers as he had 20 points for the Raiders while Brown had 17 and Drew Burleson 15 along with seven rebounds. All nine Wright State players that saw action scored.

Milwaukee (8-18, 5-8 Horizon) was led by Kevin Massiah's eight points and 11 boards.

The win, which was the fifth straight for WSU, was the 100th coaching win for Raider mentor Brad Brownell and guaranteed that Wright State will receive no lower than a third seed for the upcoming Horizon League Tournament.

WSU, now 17-8 overall and 10-2 in the Horizon League, is right back in action on Wednesday as the Raiders visit UIC for an 8:00 Eastern tip. The next home game for Wright State will be on Saturday as the #9/10 Butler Bulldogs visit the Nutter Center for a 7:00 contest.
