
WSU Baseball Splits Twinbill at Milwaukee

The Wright State baseball team split their third straight doubleheader on Saturday, splitting a pair of games with host Milwaukee. The Green and Gold used a ten-run, fifth inning to take game one 12-4, before dropping game two 12-8.
Wright State pushed the first run of the day across the plate in the first inning of game one to give them an early 1-0 lead. Dan Biedenharn and scored on a Jeremy Hamilton single up the middle off of UWM starter Robert Michalkiewicz.
In the fourth inning, Casey McGrew got things started with a double over the left fielders head. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, McGrew slid home safely on an Aaron Fields ground ball. Fields chopped one up the middle and the UWM infielder threw home, but McGrew slide around the errant thrown to give WSU a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers answered in their half of the fourth inning with a Grant Burkovitz two-run, home run to tie the game at 2-2.
The Green and Gold busted game one open in the sixth inning with a seven-hit, 10-run frame, capitalizing on a trio of UWM errors. In the inning, the big hits came from McGrew, who singled to drive in a pair of runs, and Biedenharn capped the scoring in the inning with a three-run homer to left-center field.
WSU starter Erich Schanz threw seven inning, allowing six hits and striking out two batters. Schanz improved to 5-3 on the season with the win and allowed three runs, only two earned in game one.
Biedenharn led the way for WSU, going four-for-four with three RBI's, two runs scored and his second home run of the season. McGrew drove in a pair of RBI's and collected two hits, while five other Raiders collected a hit on the game.
The Raiders again jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second game of the double-header. The Green and Gold plated two runs in the first inning on a one-out, two-run home run off the bat of Hamilton. For Hamilton, it was his sixth home run of the season and pushed his league-leading RBI total to 43.
UWM stormed back in their half of the first inning with four runs, two unearned, on WSU starter Garret Holleran. The Panthers used four hits, all singles, and a Raider error to take a 4-2 lead.
The Panthers added to their lead in the third inning as WSU starter Garret Holleran allowed a one-out double and then walked the bases loaded. A sacrifice fly brought the first run home and Kyle Silver singled to drive in two more and give UWM a 7-2 lead.
The Raiders added a pair of runs in the fourth inning as Brian Shoup and Gerald Ogrinc each drove in RBI's with sacrifice flies.
The Green and Gold then roared back to take an 8-7 lead in the seventh inning as WSU roughed up UWM starter Dan Luczak. Wright State loaded the bases with no outs and Justin Parker doubled to drive in a pair of runs, Hamilton scored on a passed ball and Shoup added his second sacrifice fly of the game.
The Panthers, (10-24 and 9-9 HL) struck back in their half for the inning scoring on two different WSU pitchers and tallied five runs in the inning. Holleran was relieved by Jason Bennion after allowing the first two batters to reach base.
Holleran threw six innings and allowed 12 hits, nine runs (six earned) and struck out three batters in the start. Holleran falls to 3-4 overall this season.
In the game, Oeder reached base three times, scored once and stole two bases to give him 21 on the season. Hamilton, Parker and Shoup all drove in two runs and Fields chipped in two hits in the contest.
The Raiders are now 24-15 overall this season and 15-8 in Horizon League play with only seven league games left on the slate. WSU and UWM will square off on Sunday, April 29, at 1:00 Dayton time in the series finale.
