
Kearcher Leads Baseball Past UIC, 9-2

The Wright State baseball team posted a 9-2 league victory over UIC on Friday evening at Nischwitz Stadium. The Raiders used a six-run fifth inning and outhit the Flames 14-9 in the contest. Kyle Kearcher threw 5.2 innings and scattered six hits to pickup his ninth victory of the season.
The Raiders got on the board in the third inning with a pair of runs off of UIC starter Ryan Zink. Sam Mote was hit by a pitch to start the inning, followed by a John Kopilchack single to put two runners on base with no one out. A Jeremy Hamilton knocked in the final run of the inning to push WSU ahead, 2-0.
UIC tallied a run in the fourth inning on WSU starter Kyle Kearcher to pull within a run at 2-1.
The Raiders then added six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the contest. Brian Shoup smacked his sixth home run of the season, a two run shot, deep over the right field scoreboard to cap the scoring. Dan Biedenharn all recorded RBI's in the sixth inning for the Green and Gold.
With the scored sitting at 8-1, Kearcher came on to retire the first two batters of the sixth inning before Nate Stevens came on to relieve the senior. Kearcher threw 5.2 innings and allowed one run on six hits and struck out five batters. The senior improves to 9-4 overall this season and lowered his ERA to 3.35.
Three relievers combined to finish the contest, as Stevens allowed one run in 1.1 innings of work. Jason Bennion struck out one in a scoreless inning of work and Scott Ruthven threw a scoreless inning to close out the game.
The Raiders tacked on a single run in the eighth inning when Oeder doubled and scored on a Hamilton single to cap the scoring for the Green and Gold.
In the game, Oeder was two-for-three, scoring twice, and was hit by a pitch twice in the contest. Hamilton drove in three RBI's in the game and Biedenharn extended his hitting streak to 20-games with single in the fifth inning.
The Green and Gold are now 33-19 overall this season and will conclude their regular season with a double-header against the Flames on Saturday, May 19. The Raiders will take the field at 1:00 and honor their seniors following the conclusion of game two.
