Box Score

The Wright State baseball team couldn't overcome six early runs by the Citadel in a 6-4 loss at the 2008 Citadel Shootout. WSU collected nine hits, but committed two errors and allowed two unearned runs in the loss.

The Citadel collected three hits and scored three runs in the first inning off of WSU starter Bryce DeWeese. The Bulldogs used an RBI double and a two-run home run to account for the scoring.

The Bulldogs added a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to push their lead to 5-0.

DeWeese would take the loss against The Citadel to fall to 0-1 on the season. He threw two innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits.

The Raiders added two runs in the third inning as Aaron Field collected a one out single to get the inning started. Senior John Kopilchack then smacked his first home run of the season, 13th of his career, over the left field fence.

A Wright State error and a wild pitch added another unearned run in the bottom of the third inning off of WSU relief pitcher Alex Kaminsky.

WSU added a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut the Citadel lead to 6-4. Jeff Mercer ripped an RBI double into the right-center field gap and Gerald Ogrinc collected an RBI on a single.

Kaminsky would combine with junior Jon Durket to thrown the final five innings scoreless on the mound for WSU. Kaminsky threw three and two-thirds innings and allowed one unearned run, while Durket threw two and one-third scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

Fields and Jeremy Hamilton each collected a pair of hits and scored a run in the game for the Raiders. Kopilchack was the lone player with multiple RBI's against The Citadel for Wright State.

Wright State, now 0-8 overall, will close out play at the 2008 Citadel Shootout on Sunday, March 9, against Evansville at 11:00 in the morning.
