Box Score The Wright State baseball team captured a 12-11 victory over Xavier on Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Field. The Raiders fell behind early, but rallied for their fourth come-from-behind victory of the season.
WSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Jeremy Hamilton and Justin Parker.
Xavier would tie the game at 1-1 with a run in the second and then take the lead in the third inning with eight runs off of three different WSU pitchers. The Musketeers would tally eight runs with two outs in the third inning off of WSU starting pitcher Bryce DeWeese and relief pitcher Jordan Wolfe, before Alex Kaminsky retired the final out of the inning.
WSU would storm back with seven runs in the fifth and four runs in the seventh to retake the lead at 12-9. Parker, Hamilton and Jeff Mercer would all smack home runs and six different Raiders would record RBI's in the rally.
Kaminsky threw 3.2 innings of relief to collect the victory and improve to 1-1 on the season. The sophomore allowed one hit and struck out one in the appearance.
Xavier would add a pair of runs in their half of the seventh inning, but Greg Robinson would throw 1.2 scoreless innings and Michael Meintel would throw a scoreless ninth to collect his first save of the season.
The Raiders out-hit Xavier 13-9 in the game and WSU capitalized on a pair of XU errors in the victory.
In the contest, John Kopilchack was three-for-four with a run scored and an RBI against the Musketeers. Hamilton scored three runs, drove in three RBI's and collected a pair of extra-base hits in the contest, while Parker notched three hits. Mercer drove in three runs and Aaron Fields extended his hitting streak to seven games.
The Green and Gold improve to 8-13 overall this season and captured their first road win of the season. The next opponent for Wright State will be Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green. The Raiders and Falcons will face off on Wednesday, April 2, starting at 3:00.
