Box Score The Wright State baseball team saw their four-game winning streak snapped by crosstown rival Dayton on Tuesday evening at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The Raiders led 9-5 heading into the eighth inning, but the Flyers tallied five in the frame and then hit a two-run game winning homer in the tenth inning to claim a 12-10 victory.
The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead on the Flyers as Jeremy Hamilton added a two-RBI double in the second inning and WSU led early.
The Flyers would score the next five runs of the game and grab a 5-3 lead over the Green and Gold.
WSU would retake the lead in the seventh inning when John Kopilchack sent an offering from Alex Dye 430 feet over the fence with the bases loaded. The grand slam gave the Green and Gold a 9-5 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Flyers (19-16) would collect five runs of their own off of WSU relief pitcher Michael Meintel. Dayton would tally five runs, only three earned, on four hits and benefit from one WSU error to take a 10-9 lead going into the ninth.
Kopilchack would strike again in the ninth, as he led the inning off with a solo home run down the right field line. It was the second home run of the game for the senior, sixth of the season, and knotted the game at 10-10.
Jeff Mercer led the tenth inning off with a single, but WSU was unable to push a run across.
Woytek would surrender a leadoff double to Jacob Spaeth and after retiring in the next two batters, Marshall MacDonald smack the game-winning two-run home run over the left field fence. Woytek fell to 2-4 overall in 2006, while winning pitcher Tim Corbey improved to 1-1 on the season for Dayton.
In the game, Kopilchack drove in five RBI's, Hamilton plated three and Parker drove in a pair of runs to account for all of the WSU offense. All nine WSU starters collected a hit in the contest, but the Green and Gold left 13 runners on-base and committed two errors in the loss.
WSU falls to 16-16 overall on the season and will head into a busy weekend of Horizon League action. The Raiders will travel to Valparaiso for a 1:00 doubleheader on Saturday, April 19, and then head to UIC for a Sunday, April 20 twinbill starting at 1:05.
