Box Score The Wright State baseball team rallied to tie the score three times in the game, but couldn't take the lead as visiting Milwaukee claimed a 13-10 victory on Friday evening. WSU gave up a season-high 22 hits, seven for extra-bases, and had their seven-game Horizon League winning streak come to an end.
The Raiders got things started in the first inning as R.J. Gundolff singled up the middle to start the inning and came around to score on an error by the UWM right fielder.
With a 1-0 lead, Wright State starting pitcher Michael Woytek allowed a pair of two run home runs in the second inning and Milwaukee took a 4-1 lead.
In the Raiders half of the inning, Aaron Field knocked in an RBI with a single and Gundolff delivered a two-RBI single to knot the game at 4-4.
Milwaukee would continue the fast offensive pace with three runs in the third inning to retake the lead at 7-5.
Woytek threw three innings in the start and allowed seven runs on nine hits with one strikeout.
The Green and Gold would add a run in the third inning and take the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Gerald Ogrinc allowed both runs to score as he grounded out in the third, was at the plate when a run scored on a passed ball and hit a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 7-7.
UWM would waste no time retaking the lead with three runs off of WSU relief pitcher Scott Ruthven. All three of the Panther runs would be scored with two outs in the inning, using three doubles and a pair of singles to take the lead.
Ruthven allowed three runs on eight hits in his 13th appearance of the season.
Wright State retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with three runs, only two earned off of UWM starting pitcher Andy Hetebrueg. Jeremy Hamilton drove in an RBI in the inning and Justin Parker added a pair of RBI's on a single in the inning.
With the game tied at 10-10, the Panthers notched a pair of runs on a single from pinch hitter Doug Dekoning in the eighth inning. Dekoning singled to center field to score the runner from second base and the runner from first scored as the ball was kicked into foul territory by the sliding base runner.
Greg Robinson surrendered both runs and was the losing pitcher in the contest, falling to 3-3 overall on the season. Jordan Wolfe closed out the game on the mound, walking one in two-thirds an inning of work.
For Milwaukee, Hetebrueg picked up the victory to improve to 3-6 overall with 7.1 innings of work. Adam Ferrell came on and threw the final one and two-thirds innings to collect his third save of the season.
The Raiders couldn't mount enough offense in the eighth and ninth innings and saw their seven game winning streak in Horizon League play come to an end.
In the game, Ross Vagedes collected a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Gundolff drove in three RBI's in the game and scored a pair of runs, while Parker added a pair of RBI's in the contest.
The Raiders fall to 19-17 overall on the season and are now 9-5 in Horizon League play. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1:00 Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
