Baseball Builds Early Lead, Defeats Dayton, 10-3

Box Score

Rylan Ostrosky tossed five innings of one-run baseball to help lead the Wright State baseball team to a 10-3 victory over backyard rival Dayton at Nischwitz Stadium on Wednesday evening. Jeremy Hamilton collected four hits, including three doubles, and three different players drove in two RBI's in the victory.

WSU sent nine batters to the plate in the opening frame and scored five runs off of Dayton starting pitcher Sean Finn to stake out to an early 5-0 advantage. Hamilton, John Kopilchack and Ross Vagedes all tallied an RBI in the frame. The big hit of the inning came from freshman Kyle Mossbarger with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

Parker added an RBI in the second inning and Aaron Fields drove in a run in the third and fourth innings to extend WSU's lead to 8-0.

Dayton added a run in the fifth inning on an RBI ground out by Jacob Speath off of WSU starting pitcher Rylan Ostrosky.

Ostrosky tossed five innings and allowed only one run on three hits. The junior struck out a pair of batters and walked three to improve to 3-2 overall this season.

In the sixth inning, WSU tallied two more runs as Hamilton doubled with one out in the frame and scored on a Parker two-bagger. Jeff Mercer plated a run with an RBI single to center field to make the Raiders lead 10-1.

Rookie Michael Meintel tossed the sixth and seventh innings scoreless for WSU. The right-hander allowed only one hit and struck out one in the outing.

Bryce DeWeese came on for WSU and allowed a pair of runs on four hits in two innings of work to close out the game on the mound.

Hamilton posted the 11th four-hit contest of his career and scored four runs against the Flyers to pace the WSU offense. Mossbarger, Parker and Vagedes each collected two RBI's in the contest and seven of the WSU starters collected hits. Vagedes extended his hitting streak to 18 games in the contest and Parker has now hit safely in ten straight contests.

The Green and Gold will return to the field on Friday evening at Eastwood Field against Horizon League foe Youngstown State. The Raiders and Penguins will take to the field for a 7:00 first pitch.
