Box Score The Wright State baseball team suffered its worst loss in Horizon League Tournament history on Thursday afternoon, falling 20-3 to Milwaukee. The Raiders chipped out 13 hits, but Milwaukee belted out nine extra base hits to knock WSU into the loser's bracket of the 2008 league summit.
The Panthers raced out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on WSU starting pitcher Alex Kaminsky. UWM added a run in the fourth and ended Kaminsky's day after 3.1 innings of work. The sophomore would strikeout two batters, but fall to 8-2 overall on the season with the loss.
With the UWM lead at 2-0, the Panthers scored five runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 9-0.
Justin Parker would get WSU on the scoreboard with his eighth home run of the season to left field, cutting the lead to 9-1 in favor of the Panthers.
The two teams played the next two innings scoreless, before Milwaukee would send 14 batters to the plate in the ninth inning, scoring 11 runs and extending their lead to 20-1.
Wright State would plate a pair of runs in the ninth on RBI hits from Casey McGrew and Kris Steffen to account for the final margin of 20-3.
McGrew was four-for-four with an RBI and a run scored in the contest and Gerald Ogrinc collected a pair of hits in the loss. John Kopilchack posted two hits in the game and Parker walked and homered for the Raiders.
Wright State will now have to rebound and win two games to stay alive on Friday, May 23, staring with an 11:00 a.m. contest against Cleveland State. If WSU can win that contest they will play the loser of UIC/Valpo at 3:00.
