Durket Leads Baseball Past Cleveland State, 7-4

Box Score

Jon Durket tossed eight and one-thirds inning on the mound and three players drove in a pair of RBI's to lead the Wright State baseball team past Cleveland State, 7-4, in an elimination game at the 2008 Horizon League Tournament presented by the U.S. Army.

The Vikings scored first in the contest as the first three batters collected base hits, with Bobby Cash driving in an RBI, to stake to a 1-0 lead on WSU starting pitcher Jon Durket.

WSU answered in their half of the first inning with an unearned run on CSU starting pitcher Dylan Henry. Casey McGrew reached on an error to start the game and came around to score on a Jeremy Hamilton single.

The Raiders would plate a pair of runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Jeff Mercer.

With the lead sitting at 3-1, the Green and Gold would tack on four runs in the fourth inning off of four Cleveland State pitchers. R.J. Gundolff got things started with a one-out hit-by-pitch and moved to second on an intentional walk to Hamilton. That was followed by RBI singles from Parker, Mercer and Ross Vagedes. Gerald Ogrinc capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field and WSU pushed their lead to 7-1.

Durket tossed five scoreless innings before surrendering a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Kyle Bischof.

Durket tossed 8.1 innings of work allowing four runs on ten hits. The junior improved his record to 7-2 overall on the season and struck out six batters in the contest.

Greg Robinson came on to relieve Durket in the ninth and allowed only a sacrifice fly to allow one of two inherited runners to score. It was the third save of the season for the sophomore as he struck out the final batter of the game to preserve the victory.

Hamilton, Mercer and Parker all collected two hits and drove in two RBI's in the contests, with Mercer collecting his first career triple. Aaron Fields collected a pair of hits in the contest and Gundolff scored a pair of runs in the victory.

The Raiders captured their 30th victory of the season in the elimination game and are now 30-22 overall on the season. WSU will now face off with Valparaiso in their second game of the day and attempt to extend their stay at the Horizon League Tournament to Saturday.
