Box Score The Wright State baseball team took an early lead but could hold on against Valparaiso, falling 13-4 at the 2008 Horizon League Tournament presented by the U.S. Army.
The Green and Gold took an early 3-0 lead on Valparaiso when six of the first seven batters reached base on VU starter Bryce Schafer. Jeff Mercer and Ross Vagedes each drove in RBI's in the inning and R.J. Gundolff scored on a wild pitch in the frame.
WSU starting pitcher Rylan Ostrosky cruised through the first two innings before allowing a run in the third inning. Ostrosky's day ended in the fourth when he allowed the first three batters to reach base safely. Valpo would tack on seven runs in the frame, three of which were charged to the junior and four charged to relief pitcher Scott Ruthven.
Valpo would add three in the fifth inning, before WSU would score an unearned run on a sacrifice fly from Casey McGrew in the sixth.
The Crusaders added the final two runs of the game in the seventh to account for the final margin of 13-4.
Jeremy Hamilton ended the season with a .410 batting average and was the fifth player in school history to end a season with a batting average of .400 or better.
Senior Ross Vagedes singled and was hit by a pitch.
The Raiders end the season with a 30-23 record and claimed the third straight 30+ win season under head coach Rob Cooper.
