Hibberd's Slam Not Enough As Baseball Drops Opener at Milwaukee

The Wright State baseball team scored six runs in the ninth inning, but the Panthers raced out to a 16-0 lead early in the contest and handed the Green and Gold a 16-6 setback in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field. Gerald Ogrinc collected a pair of hits in the game.
The Panthers (10-17, 4-3 HL) got the scoring started in the second inning with a pair of runs off of Wright State starting pitcher Michael Woytek. Milwaukee added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings off of Woytek to build an 8-0 lead.
Bryce DeWeese each surrendered four runs apiece in relief appearances in the sixth and seventh innings, with UWM leading 16-0 heading into the eighth. Lee Valencheck tossed a scoreless ninth for the Raiders, striking out two batters in the appearance.
The Raiders got their offense going in the ninth inning on relief pitcher Nate Caldwell, as Jeff Mercer and Quentin Cate started the inning with back-to-back walks. After pinch hitter Casey McGrew drove in a run in the frame with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and Mercer hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for WSU.
The Raiders are now 15-17 overall and fall to 4-3 in Horizon League play with the loss to Milwaukee. The two teams will take to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 Dayton time.
