Weekly Recap: Women's Tennis Splits Trip Through Pennsylvania

DAYTON, Ohio – The Wright State women's tennis team captured their first victory of the season, 7-0 on Saturday, January 30 at Robert Morris, after dropping a 7-0 match versus Duquesne on Friday (January 29). The Raiders couldn't muster a victory versus the Dukes in their weekend opener, but grabbed all six singles points and won each of the three doubles matches to post the 7-0 win.

 

At Duquesne (1-1), dropped the doubles point to open play, with the #1 Doubles team of Jackie Garrett dropped a 6-3 and 6-4 decision at the #7 Singles post.

 

On Saturday at Robert Morris, the women's squad picked up their first January victory since 2005 when they defeated Milwaukee 7-0 on January 29. The Green and Gold won all six singles decisions and took all of the doubles matches to defeat the Colonials 7-0 at The Club Sport and Health Center.

 

Webb picked up the 6-1 and 6-2 victory at the #1 Singles spot, Peresetsky won 6-2 and 6-0 at #2 Singles and Albuquerque picked up her second career win in the #3 Single spot with a 6-0 and 6-1 decision. Jackie Garrett each won a straight sets match at the #4 Singles and #6 Singles spots, respectively. The final WSU singles win came from rookie Amy Nini, who posted a 6-1 and 6-3 win at the #5 Singles poll.

 

In doubles, Webb and Peresetsky won an 8-7 match at the #1 spot, Hines and Albuquerque teamed up for an 8-0 victory at the #2 position and the team of Nini and Garrett won 8-3 in the #3 Doubles slot.

 

The Raiders are now 1-2 overall this season and will return to action on Friday, February 5 in their home opener versus Kennesaw State. The Raiders and Owls will take to the courts at the South Regency Tennis Center starting at 11:00 a.m.
