Baseball Drops 12-Inning Decision at Toledo

Box Score

Wright State trailed just once the entire day, but it came when it mattered most as the Toledo Rockets scored a run in the bottom of the 12th to pull out a 9-8 win over the Raiders in baseball action Wednesday at Scott Park.

WSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second. Quentin Cate hit to left.

The Rockets answered with two in their half of the second, only to see Wright State add one in the third on a Gerald Ogrinc solo home run to left center, his second of the season. Another Raider solo blast, this one Cate's sixth of the year, made it 7-4 in the fourth.

Toledo picked up a run in the fourth as well and it stayed that way until the Rockets tied the game at 7-7 with two in the seventh. In extra innings, WSU scored first with a run in the 11th as after Ashe and Ogrinc started the frame with singles and moved up on an Aaron Fields bunt, a R.J. Gundolff ground out plated Ashe to make it 8-7.

The Rockets, however, kept the game alive with a run of their own in the bottom of the 11th and won it with another run in the 12th.

Ogrinc finished with four hits to pace the Raider offense while Cate and Ashe had three hits each.

Wright State (20-17) returns to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game series at Youngstown State. The Raiders and Penguins will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3:00, followed a single game Saturday at noon.
